Re: What was the last movie you watched?
District 9
It was a fantastic movie. The end was very touching.
The Spanish Prisoner
The acting was bad, but the script and story was good overall.

Alice in Wonderland
I love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, so that was good. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I couldn't help bu feel that the dance they used at the end just kinda destroyed the ending feeling. What? Like a breakdance impossible head spin thing? Otherwise I liked it.
Jumper
Kind of cool special effects. Plot line was still kind of thin or something.
Sky High
Special effects were OK.
Funny movie, but too bad that that hot girl was evil.
Also the ending was not very awesome.
Beginning was better than end.

No country for old men.
Wow, this movie was amazing, loved it. Coen brothers = awesomeness
5 out of 5 awesome shotguns with giant silencers
Kill Bill Vol. 1 + Death Proof
Tarantino is a freaking genius.
Yes he is DanimationMovies. YES HE IS ( pulp fiction refference )
Love your avatar btw
Everyone in the German army's heard of "Quentin Tarantino" (Bad Inglourious !@#$%^&* reference)
Night Owl wrote:Maybe, but the whole 3D glasses thing, and the fact that it's significantly more complicated than sound and color, make me question that assumption.
Everything is questionable. And anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some innovation in the next few years that gets rid of the glasses.
Oh, yeah. We already have those. They're called plays.
Damn, I wrote a thing, and didn't post, and now it's gone
In summary:
Alice in wonderland:
Visually stunning (obviously?).
Acting is great, especially and unsurprisingly from JD.
Johnny Depp's scottish accent is brilliant and he successfully puts across going mad, and being horrified because he can see it is happening.
Fails at not being an amalgam of his other characters, Jack Sparrow pops up a couple of times.
The plot sucks.
It really sucks.
The same old Hollywood "forgotten hero with destiny" nonsense, its average, its predictable and its boring.
However, it's more good than it is bad and worth watching for light entertainment.
The Crazies
Too many jump scares, every tense scene leads to a jump. Would have been scarier if sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't.
One majorish plot hole that really doesn't matter, and some obvious twists.
Otherwise, really good fun and free from studio interference.
If you love Romero (and lets face it, you probably do) you'll enjoy this. He only produced it, and it isn't technically zombies, but his creative influence is all over it.
Very good, but not amazing.
Bonus points for starring Timothy Olyphant playing nearly the same role he played in Deadwood.
Crazy Heart
Best film I've seen in the cinema this year. Go watch it. Seriously, go now!

Lol, myne was worse
Kill Bill Vol. 1 + Death Proof
Tarantino is a freaking genius.
Tarantino is a copycat. But a very good one.
Tarantino is a copycat ? Explain.
Inglourious !@#$%^&* was " based on " the older movie " Inglorious !@#$%^& if that's what you mean. Actually it wasn't really based on that movie at all, I've seen both and exept for the title they weren't very similar at all.
Jackie Brown was based on Elmore Leonard's novel " Rum Punch " and Leonard was also credited for this.
I think it's safe to say Reservoir dogs and Pulp fiction are quite unique.
Kill Bill 1 + 2 and Death Proof, I wouldn't know what he'd of copied it from
I gotta say that the movie " Naturall born killers " has a very similar storyline to the book " The Hot Kid " by Elmore Leonard ( I'm reading it right now but I'm not finished yet so I'm not sure how similar it actually is )
And yes, Naturall born killers was not directed by Tarantino but by Oliver Stone. But the original script was written by Tarantino, Stone bought it off him and re-wrote it

Shwah? Copying who? Pulp Fiction changed the way people look at film for decades. ![]()
(Totally got beaten to the punch by vik)
There's a difference between ripping off movies and borrowing/paying homage to a particular style. I've never gotten the impression that Tarantino blatantly steals from movies, but the presence of other works and other genres is certainly very tangible.
Inglourious B asterds has the feel of Italian spaghetti Westerns as well as old war movies like The Dirty Dozen, Kill Bill is infused with the style of old martial arts and kung-fu films, Jackie Brown is a clear tribute to the blaxploitation genre, etc. Most (if not all) of Tarantino's films feel like homages to exploitation films, especially in his depiction of violence.
Mindgame has it sussed. I entirely agree.
Yea true, but that's not copying just show love and appreciation towards that movie. I thought A. ment litterlay stealing stuff
Sorry, I think I worded my original argument wrong. I never meant to imply that Tarantino stole from other works, but that he pays homage and tribute to classic films and styles from the past.
I think 3D can transcend becoming just a gimmick if directors know how to properly utilize it.
I happen to be on this side of the 3d argument. I think that it has the ability to create a much more immersive experience if used as a storytelling device.
