Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Alice In Wonderland

As soon as I heard this movie was directed by Tim Burton, I had to see it. You know that whatever he makes, it’s going to be dark and edgy. And it is – obviously. Some with no taste in film would simply dismiss this movie as weird. Yes, I think it is weird, but it’s….awesomely weird. It would be crap if it wasn’t weird. If you don’t want it to be dark and weird, then just watch the old Disney Version.
Really, there is nothing much to say. I would highly recommend it if you have seen and liked anything else by Mr Burton. I watched this movie in 2D, and to be honest – I don’t think it will make much difference. There are one or two parts that are like “ZOMG WE HAVE 3D!!" but there is no need for it. 3D is a gimmick and it always will be.

It’s not perfect though. Johnny Deep is good as usual – but he’s a bit too good. You NEED him to be the star of the movie or else he will just take it over Another problem is that occasionally Johnny appears to be playing Willy Wonka at times, which isn’t really one of your best roles Johnny…
Also, towards the middle of the movie, the pace began to slow a little (here I use my favourite Monty Python quote: “GET ON WITH IT!!”) Also, despite the visuals being generally interesting and edgy, at times the CG can look a little cheesy.

But despite this, I hope this will receive some credit for its unique visual style and powerhouse cast. Every actor in this movie is top notch, and everyone fits their role perfectly. I was in heaven when I realised Alan Rickman was playing the Caterpillar. As you should know, any role he stars in is AWESOME. (Snape, that terrorist from ‘Die Hard’, The Sherriff of Nottingham, that alien from ‘Galaxy Quest’ - has he ever had a bad role?)

A well deserved 4/5

I saw Alice in Wonderland yesterday, and my sentiments towards it are quite similar. I do find the last half-hour was a bit crap compared to the rest of the film though...
I give it a 3.5/5.

Wow, I really liked it. I enjoyed the sequences when the puppies were sliding on the ice.

The Jungle Book
I really loved it. They did a good job animating King Louie. I really liked how he would swing around.

Up in the Air

Pretty good movie, still not fantastic. Although I am glad that these kind of movies are up for Best Film. The acting was superb by everyone, I just think the story was the one that was trying too hard to be great. Don't get wrong the story story was good, it just wasn't great.

The Blind Side
Excellent film, touching story. And to top it off, it was a true story! mini/bigsmile

People used to say that about sound and color, you know. I wouldn't be surprised if, in a decade or two, it will be commonplace enough that films will seem odd without it.

Anyway, the last film I saw... that I wanted to see, anyway, was The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I thing the best thing this film did was the music, really. My sister and I had a great time seeking out a great number of flaws in the film. For example, how did Quasimodo brew up all that lava (which is another mystery in and of its self) in that one pot?

And the other film I saw was Fox and the Hound, but I'd rather not talk about that... it wasn't an enjoyable experience.

30 Days of Night

Wow, this and From Dusk Till Dawn are the best vampire films I have ever seen. I just want them to have a massive battle with the Twilight vampires, just to show those expressionless creeps how it's done. Really, which of the characters below look like a vampire really should look like?
30 Days...
Twilight
I'm not that big a fan of vampire films, but this is easily the best horror movie I have seen in a long time. Really, the setting is fantastic and what could be more scary than 30 days of endless night in which you are besieged by vampires. They are what the vampire was originally supposed to have been - Scary. I think that an isolated, Alasken town is a great horror setting, and is a perfect stage for suspense. The acting is average,if not slightly above, and the mood and lighting are very good, just unfortunately I watched it on a dark TV, so I couldn't see everything all that well. Although we could be provided more knowledge on the background story; why are the lead couple so estranged? Where were the vampires up to these days? But still, it was a great movie and definately worth a couple of hours of your time.
A well deserved ★★★★★.

Maybe, but the whole 3D glasses thing, and the fact that it's significantly more complicated than sound and color, make me question that assumption.

3D is something you get at a theme park as an attraction, or at IMAX, not in a normal Cinema.

Everything is questionable. And anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some innovation in the next few years that gets rid of the glasses. Personally, I don't mind them at all; not the new ones that are kind of like sunglasses.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I think 3D can transcend becoming just a gimmick if directors know how to properly utilize it.

Teen Wolf

Hehe, pretty funny. I liked this film, but if it was real today, then scientists would've dissected him.

Saving Private Ryan, it's now my favorite movie. Reminds me so much of Call of Duty, so much that they don't need to make a CoD movie as we can just watch SPR.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Did you honestly just relate the experience of watching Saving Private Ryan to playing a Call of Duty game?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Eagle Eye

The first time I've watched it the whole way through.

It was pretty good, but I'm not a fan of Shia la' beouf or whatever the hell that whiney-ass kid's name is.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Yeah, but I've never compared something like, I don't know, I-Robot to Half-Life 2.
