It's amazing for what it is: a lavish fantasy beautifully visualized that's fun if you don't think too hard about it.
Beyond the propagandistic/idealized aspects of the story and characters, two things bugged me.
1. Unobtanium - Silly. 'Nuff said.
2. USB ports in the ponytails. We can hardly come to unified standards with name-brand electronics, much less an entire planet.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed this film quite a bit despite myself.

Night Owl, is there something wrong with liking a mainstream movie? All you drone on about is all this Independent, Art-House Critic stuff...as if everything else sucks.
Yeah seriously, just stop doing it. It's so annoying. We can say one small thing about a movie we like and you'll come in and spoil everything.
First of all, if what I say actually "spoils everything", then don't blame me.
This is a site about filmmaking; I see nothing wrong with being argumentative about it. I happen to have strong feelings about film as an art form, and I express them when I see something I disagree with.
Also, as a moderator, I have to say that the way you all are bashing Max's posts is rude and unacceptable. It's especially odd coming from a group of people whose standard response to criticism seems to be "we're all entitled to our own opinion!!!11".
Ok, from now on, if you want to listen to my endless Avatar rants, please just go here.
Or, you can wait a few years, and I may try and post a series of reviews. Either way, I shall stop posting them here unless someone asks me what I hate about Avatar - which I will simply say "Everything apart from the Arial fight scene - which is pretty awesome".

Home Alone 3
Home Alone 1+2, with a completely different cast......and crap. Do I need to go on?

Wait, what? I do believe you've just contradicted yourself in three sentences. If people are bashing Max's posts just for the sake of bashing Max's posts, and without any real substance to them, then yeah, I can see why you'd be annoyed, but I believe the rest of us actually have valid reasons to argue Max's opinions.
Oh, and the last movie I saw was Signs. To sum it up, it's The Birds but with ALIENS.

There is a difference, however, between arguing someone's opinions and telling them to shut up because nobody cares about what they say.
Yeah, this is kinda sad. How about we talk about, I donno, movies?
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
I was taken aback by how engaged I was with the film, and by how genuinely surprised I was by the twists and turns that the plot took (given that this is almost a century old). Loved the distorted set design.
Days of Heaven
My faith in Terrence Malick has been restored; this film is exquisite. The narrative here avoided pretty much all of my previous frustrations with Malick's storytelling style: the pacing was nice and consistent, it didn't skimp on character development or abandon major characters at any point, and the story was completely engaging and compelling. Everything just seemed to fit together as a cohesive whole. As expected with a Malick film, the cinematography was nothing short of breathtaking, but I don't think I've seen many films that were as consistently well-photographed on a scene-by-scene basis as this (90% of all the shots in this movie are spectacular in some way).

Inglorious !@#$%^&*
Very...different.
The dialog in this movie was superb, very tense overall, especially the opening scene. The big F-You to history at the end was nice.
Extremely good overall.
The Wolfman
I went into this film wanting to be scared sh*tless. I was, but for the wrong reasons. The film relied mostly on loud noises and quick shots of the beast, and the occasional spattering of Gore. Not to say there weren't a few "OMGWTFBBQHOWTHEHELLDIDHEDOTHATITRIPPEDHISHEADOFF" moments.
The acting sucked overall, too. You hire an actor who played Smit in the Matrix, you're not exactly expecting him to act amazingly. I always expected him to go all Matrix on the Werewolf, but I'm rambling...
Shut your face, Hugo Weaving is an awesome actor. ![]()
Shutter Island
I thought it was really great. Martin Scorsese creates this sense of paranoia and dread that lasts pretty much throughout the entire film, which was very effective. The cast was very good, DiCaprio especially, in probably one of his most emotionally shattered performances to date. A lot of people complain about the film's inconsistent pacing, but I actually found it to work in its favor. For me, it helped to reinforce the idea that the actual investigation wasn't the point of the film, but rather Teddy's own personal journey.
I Am Legend (Alternate Ending)
Much better than the normal ending.
Shutter Island
That was a better movie then I expected it to be. The story line tugged me in all directions, which was cool. I love how through most of the film, you think that the main character is a marshal on an investigation, but the whole time, that's not the story at all. I loved the 50's setting, and the clothing was very accurate to the period the film was set in. The only thing that bugged me was that the color would change to give it a distinctive hint of purple or green, but only for one scene. DiCaprio was an awesome actor, and perfect for the role. I liked it. 4/5
