Topic: Blue Snowball Mic. Questions

I'm going to be investing in one of these in the near future to get better mic quality in my brickfilms.

I know quite a few of the people on this site use this mic and I have a question I need answered.

Can it record your own sound effects for you, like say I tap a stick on a desk in front of the mic.  Will it pick that noise up? (I'm trying to make some of my own sound effects for my movies)

Also, are their other microphones out there that can record sound effects and get a slightly better quality for a similar pirce (I'm aiming to spend anything less than maybe $120)

Thanks! mini/smile

Yes, they come with three settings for recording based on sensitivity, I forget what one does what, but I've expirimented with them all and use "1" most of the time.

Re: Blue Snowball Mic. Questions

I like the Blue Snowball.  You can record sound effects with it, it's a pretty versatile mic which is the best thing about it imo.

If I didn't have a Snowball and were buying a mic, though, I'd get the Blue Yeti, which is a slightly more expensive and significantly better mic with similar capabilities but higher fidelity, etc.  It looks according to Google like you might be able to get a Yeti for under $120.

Re: Blue Snowball Mic. Questions

The question I ask my self on this topic is: Is it really $120 worth of quality?

Re: Blue Snowball Mic. Questions

Just as a quick note, folks, your local Costco may have the Blue Snowball for $49.99. Mine does, and it's the lowest price I've seen thus far.

Re: Blue Snowball Mic. Questions

I just bought one not too long ago, paid little bit over 100 for it, I recommend buying from the guitar center they offer a 2 year warranty for only 20 dollars and if anything happens to it it gets replaced for free, even if you take it outside and decide to smash it. As for it being worth the money, yes this is such a great mic, it is actually hard to believe its a USB mic.
