Topic: Still Camera

What is a good technique for keeping your camera very still? Because, no matter how hard I try, I still get a little wobble in the playback (which otherwise I wouldn't mind too much except that when you are masking....). Especially when you are cloning lots of minifigures, it is hard. I managed to do it pretty well while doing a short pioneering test Sunday but that was only three pictures...
Any suggestions?

TAPE

Re: Still Camera

If you have a webcam make a custom cradle and if it is a camera on a tripod then use a USB connection to MonkeyJam or something.

Oh, well, that's simple enough... Thanks

YES. And just to add to that, don't use any old tape - use DUCT Tape. I've tried Cellotape, and the brown tape used on parcels, but this DUCT Tape is freaken awesome! I just tried it out. Just two strips and the job is done. I thought I'd just add that.

Tape, sticky tac. Every thing and anything! mini/smile

Re: Still Camera

I would avoid duct tape, as it's too strong and can leave residue on the desk and camera. Sticky tac is much better for legos.

If you use a DV camera, I would suggest putting the tripod to the side of your set, as far away from you as possible. When the camera's on a tripod, it is extremely easy for it to move if it's close to you. I've experienced this problem myself, so I try to build my sets that allow the camera to be at one end of the desk, and myself at another end.

What other type of sticky tack is there?
I have the same problem and I would also like to ask how do you keep the camera still while making odd camera angles, such as a view from above? Sticky tack doesn't work for that...

Re: Still Camera

My method is a solid tripod with the right lens combination. And use a remote to trigger the shutter. If you are touching the camera to capture a frame it will move.

Re: Still Camera

I made a cradle for my webcam. It rests on a plate with pieces to hold it place on top. It can be connected with different things so it can do camera movements if neccesary. One does a left/right movement, another does an up/down movement, and so on.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Still Camera

If you're camera has the ability to have live feed go to a stop motion program, make sure you use that due to the great feature of onion skinning. Though if you're not able to do that, you might have to do what I usually do. I basically use lots of sticky tac (or maybe even some X-Tra Sticky Sticky Tack, though i have never tried that) attached to my tripod attached to my desk.. If you're using a webcam, make sure to follow a tutorial on creating a cradle, and if you can't find a tutorial one the webcam you have, be creative and make a custom version. I'm even sure that it's possible for certain types of digital cameras.

Re: Still Camera

Wow, I'm surprised that my little recipe has an actual practical use.
