Re: RE: Locking of the Movie Caption Contest

I really have nothing to do with this, but I thought this was going to be a community run site??? Seems to me if a mod is trying to dictate how things should go then its not community run..

I mean that my other arguements still withstand though, and that I understand the Ammendments thing is dead.

I thought the Coffe Shop was created for Non-Brickfilm related material. But yes, I understand your arguements Lech.

We'd better stand real still then or they'll fall off.

Re: RE: Locking of the Movie Caption Contest

I don't have much of a problem with the threads being locked, most of them are pointless. I do, however, find it silly that r ape, d ouche and p orn are censored.

Re: RE: Locking of the Movie Caption Contest

I understand d ouche, but the others are stupid, yes.

The other day, I found out that G o d dam ned was censored. Its not the actual words, its the fact they used a WORD FILTER.

Ah well. My campagin has had as much impact as a rather suicidal ant. I feel there is no need to continue it.

Re: RE: Locking of the Movie Caption Contest

Strange, that's actually more censorship than I would do.

Re: RE: Locking of the Movie Caption Contest

Wow ... there was another caption contest thread?

Man, the least people could do is come up with a new game altogether. Or, hell, someone could start up Grayscale's game thread again; that was always fun.

So it is. That's incredibly lame. mini/confused

FYI, there's a purpose to the heightened moderation here, so that this forum won't fall victim to the orgy of random and unnecessary posts and topics that Refugee Camp suffered from.

I don't quite remember that one. However, I think the Brickfilm Quote Contest should be brought back; that was a fun one.

Just because you, Night Owl (and there are a few other moderators who operate like this) feel that the topic is unnecessary, DOES NOT give a justified reason to completely lock the topic.

I will presume that the "few other moderators" would be me and Dew, the only other moderators here.  I don't think I've really locked many threads, to be honest.  And yes, Night Owl deeming it unnecessary is a good justification to lock the thread.  This site isn't run by committee, we tried that at Brickfilms.com with the "ministries" and look what happened.  You may disagree with Night Owl's decision but, even if you weren't in the minority here, and I think you are, there's no need for a privately owned website to appeal to you if it doesn't want to, and it certainly doesn't have to abide by the U.S. Constitution.

This site is now so heavily moderated, censored, and filtered, that it is almost an exact replica of Brickfilms.com. If you lock THIS topic, you are proving my case. We appear to have too many Cheifs, and no Indians in this community.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here.  With the exception of censoring the name of this website, Brickfilms.com hasn't conducted censorship in the past; in fact, the founder of that website cursed on the front page on a regular basis.  Spam was and still is allowed to get out of hand at Brickfilms.com, I think a cursory look at many threads in the community and feedback forums there should prove this point to anybody.  TAAB locked a few protest threads to stop people from voicing their opinions, which was within her rights though not a popular decision, but I don't think that has been problem here; while both of the other threads complaining about too much moderation here have been locked, this was only because the discussion in both threads had turned from talking about the moderation to unrelated problems, which were then resolved.  In other words, statements like this and others you have made show that you don't know what you're talking about.  Ignorance is fine if you keep it to yourself, but accusing the volunteers behind this site of stupidity is crossing the line.

No, "rape" isn't censored.  We had tried it due to several explicit jokes in the caption thread -- note we wouldn't have considered it if people hadn't been breaking the clearly established rules in the first place.  At any rate it was causing issues elsewhere so I removed that censor after only a few hours.  The other words you've mentioned are censored, yes, I think the second one is pretty reasonable to censor because people like LBJ and Droid were using it as an insult; censoring the third word wasn't my decision but why would we need to be discussing that on a brickfilming website in the first place?  A majority of websites on the internet are pornographic in nature, so there are plenty of other places for that.

I'm quite pleased that it's censored. We have an over-protective internet filter at work and if certain keywords or "weighted phrases" appear regularly enough, the site gets blocked. I'd rather be able to read the site with the occasional "------" in a post than not read it at all.

Re: RE: Locking of the Movie Caption Contest

I've agreed completely with pretty much every lock that has been made so far. People should participate in intelligent discussions instead of stupid and meaningless games to pass time.

Re: RE: Locking of the Movie Caption Contest

Stupid and Meaningless are virtues, Badger.

I do understand the use of the filters, yet I would rather the Administration trusted us to just not use them. If we do 'let slip' the occasional rude words related to fecial matter, then by all means, the mods should remove them. That was what it was like in the old site, and I liked it that way. It made the site feel more community based, then school-like.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ministries only colapsed when TAAB took control of the site, thus making nearly all the Ministers resign.

This site doesnt need ministries, but it does need more than one persons consent before locking a thread.

However, since this campaign has had little more effect then if I stuck a toy gun to The Queen of Englands head and demmanded that she handed over all of her palaces, money, and maids; I hereby disband it. To be frank: It is an 'Epic Fail'

I leave this topic to the hands of fate, and arbiter (though please, spare my posteriour of your teeth). May you all be reminded that I will have my vengence for these actions, and you have not heard the last from this matter.

They fell apart before that because the some of the volunteers elected to positions were often not willing and/or competent at their posts.  Which is part of why appointments are better for a website: the general forum population can't be trusted to always make a good decision, as it often becomes a popularity contest.  For example, the IDEA contest judging took several months and prizes were never actually awarded due to the frequent change of ministers.  Ladon had a lot of changes he wanted to make to the rating system, but couldn't do most of them until a programmer with the right clearance and knowledge made the changes for him.  Night Owl had ideas for a new organization structure for the forums, which people liked, but he couldn't execute it the way he wanted to because he didn't have the right clearance.  The last remaining minister, Lechnology, launched the massive community project "SUPER," which seems to also have collapsed.  Though I could be wrong about that last part.
