Topic: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

Introduction

Right, just thought I'd put this out here, but would anyone be interested in helping on a Christmas Brickfilming Project? I've been brainstorming recently over an idea, which while being simple, could make a nice and enjoyable 5 Minute short. It would also be a good opportunity for various brickfilmers to get animating.

Story

So basically the plot is that Santa going about his rounds of giving presents in Brickville. Starts off simply enough, he goes in, puts the presents under the trees, and then eats the pie left for him before going on. But in every new house he arrives in he's fatter. And he continues to get bigger and bigger, finding it harder to get down the chimneys. Eventually he arrives in the final chimney, but is too fat to get in.

How does he deal with the dilemma? Exactly. He tries going down a few ways, like head first, jumping down, etc. but eventually he realizes that he doesn't have much time, and nothing he does is working. So it's time to get out the "Loose Weight Quickly" book. Then we see a "Rocky" like training montage, and he soon looses enough weight to get down. But is it too late...?

So that's the story. A fun, simple, and interactive festive film.

Organization

Though it's a while to Christmas, I thought I'd start early, as community productions are hard to organize right. So basically here's how it would work:

  • 1. I write a full script, and send it to everyone who wants to be a part of the project.

  • 2. We put out a casting call.

  • 3. We discuss which scenes and parts people want to do and what's available. You can also do more then one scene if you're good enough.

  • 4. Start animating!

  • 5. Send me the scenes, I'll edit it together and we have our project complete.

And here are the list of scenes available:

  • 1. Santa's flying scenes, used in the beginning, and transitions. Assigned to -

  • 2. House scene 1, in which a normal Minifigure Santa eats his first pie, and delivers the presents to the first house. Assigned to - Jstudios

  • 3. House scene 2, same as last time, but a different house and a slightly fatter Santa. Assigned to -

  • 4. House scene 3, same as before, but fatter again. Assigned to -

  • 5. House scene 4, VERY big santa. Assigned to -

  • 6. Santa's last house, in which he tries to get down the chimney but fails. A fairly long scene. Assigned to -

  • 7. Santa's training montage. Assigned to - JustKidden

  • 8. Girl putting out Pie. Assigned to - Scypax

  • 9. Boy leaving Pie. Assigned to - Chuppa

  • 10. City backdrop. Lots of buildings with lights in the windows. Assigned to -

  • 11. People busing along the streets. Assigned to -

Characters:
1. Santa - Deep jolly voice.
2. Mother 1 - Motherly voice, older.
3. Mother 2 - Same again
4. Father - Older voice
5. Small Girl - Squeaky and youngish
6. Small Boy - Youngish
7. Extras (Anyone can audition, used for the busy street scene)

Any suggestions are welcome, and the list will change and develop as the script is more thoroughly done. If you wish to take part or ask any questions about the scenes please comment below.

I'd be glad to help, LegO! I've been wanting to do a copro for a while.

Glad to hear you'd be interested. Just so you know, this isn't exactly a co-pro, more of a community type project, where numerous animators help out. Anyway, which scene would you be looking at?

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

This is great, LegO. I'd love to help. My only question is, how will you make him look fatter? Clay? You'll have to maintain the shirt design. My question is, other than the scipting and ideas, I'd also love to animate some parts (maybe a kid opening the presents the next morning), but everyone has different quality cameras and frame rates- What if my HD doesn't match another person's 480p?

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

The frame rate of the film will be at 15 fps, as that is everyone's primary frame setting. As for camera issues, well for the majority of scenes (Such as the house scenes) we will use Logitechs, as most people use them. But other similar quality cameras can be used. Many films use different cameras, so can we. And if your camera is really different, then why not help out with the organization? Plus there are spots open for those judging on the casting call. I'll update the page with position spots and what's subject to availability.

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

Well, you can look at my videos to see the cam quality, and go to the "picture of my studio" thread in Software/Hardware to see my cam itself, but you can always make the quality lower. I can animate it, and you'll pixelize it and crop it to look like a 9000 quality animation. As for frame rate, I try using 16fps (with WMM), but I still haven't gotten a hang of it yet. I'll be practicing it more.

What about the fat santa issue, though?

OH, let it be known I don't have a LEGO santa, so I'll do not important, background scenes. (we can use my personal Lego town)

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

I could do some Voice acting, maybe animation. The problem is I don't have Santa.

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

I'd be willing to help.  Maybe voice acting.  Like Chuppa I don't have a Santa minifig.  If there are some smaller jobs that need doing, I could fit them into my schedule.

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

Santa minifigures get easier to find as the year goes on. I know the city advent calender comes with one.

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

Are there any scenes without santa?

Used to be 'Caidence'

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

Yeah, there's one with the Advent Calender, however I can understand that you mightn't have the money to spare. So, there's a few things we can do, however I'd like a poll before I confirm any of them.

1. Create another Christmas film, so people can work on which ever suits them.
2. Make more scenes so that more people can do this particular one.
3. Leave it.

I don't mind on which one the majority choose. Hope this will help the situation.

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

I'll help out. Just assign me to any part and I'll do it.
Email me.

I'd want to do the training montage, if possible.

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

This sounds like fun.  Let me know if you need any female voices.  I can do any age (young girl to old lady), and I can even voice an awesome elf! mini/lol

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

I could do scene 4 if you wanted? mini/smile I've never done a copro but I'd like to try!

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

I would like to do the first Santa scene (house scene 1), if possible? mini/smile

Why are you looking at my signature?
Mod edit: Your signature started it.
... Oh yeah.

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

I think this sounds cool.
So I guess i'm in.
Which means i'm gonna have to get a Santa Minifig...

Re: Christmas Collaboration Project - Too Many Pies

Like I said, I can do some transition scenes, like outside a town or... a little girl putting the pie on the cabinet saying "I hope Santa likes it mommy!!!" "I'm sure he will sweety." And they walk out. Things like that. You can't just jump into the action of a film, its got to start slow first, and that scene would be nice.

When do we know what scene we get assigned?
