how do you work lighting to make it look like it's night in your film? like I'm making a movie that takes place at night and I need to figure out how to work lighting? any suggestions???? 
try and use a kind of base light which will provide enough light to present your subjects, but not enough to make it appear as daylight. For example, I use a base light and a focus light - the base light provides the light to illuminate the set and the focus light illuminates the rest.
Basically, what I'm saying is use just one light (in a dark room) which will appear dark, but not pitch black. Experiment with different light techniques in a dark room.
You film completely normal, if you have the Quickcam Pro 9000, set the white balance to zero and adjust the light in the menue. That should create pretty good night scene. It worked fine for me!

blue gels are your friend, check out this set up 0ldScratch has, image setup, actual image
if you have a different look for natural and unnatural light you can make night time look like night, not an image tinted blue. You can pick up some party gels for cheap
If you want some really nice gels in a LOT of colors pick up one of these, the gels are much high quality, are larger, and have a lot more options.
Try darkening your video in Windows Movie Maker with the video effects, that works for me depending on lighting
