Topic: Pulling Off Close Ups

Okay, so basically, I move my camera close to my minifigure and it gets blurry. Any ideas? mini/confused I know most of you can do it. lol mini/tongue

Focus.

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

I think some brickfilmers use magnifying glasses to get extreme close ups, though I haven't tried it myself, so I'm not sure how well it works.

THE OTHER WISE MAN HAS SPOKEN!

How close are you moving it? Example film?

I do not care about your opinion, unless it has to do with it needing more ponies.

I think that about says it all.

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

If your camera has auto-focus, I find that putting something behind the character (like a hand or piece of paper) it directs the focus more.

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

@BertL: Well, my camera doesn't have a button for it, hmm, I might check the manuel, but I have explored my camera to the utmost degree. lol I believe it just does auto focus.
@NXTManiac: Yeah, I tried that, it kinda works, but The lens kinda reflects stuff.
@Yoder: Well, What I said to BertL.
@Peanut: Well, about close enough so you can only see down to his waist and a little over his head, that's when it gets blurry.
@Cinexcellence: Oh! Yes, I think mine has auto-focus, cuz there is NO BUTTON for focus.

Thanks for trying to help you guys! mini/bigsmile

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

Your camera might have a "macro" mode in the form of a little flower. That's the closest thing to an auto-focus extreme close up mode you can get.

Anyhow, in most cases auto focus would completely ruin a brickfilm. When your camera is focusing automatically, it will constantly readjust the focus in between two frames. This means that between frames the focus changes constantly, resulting in a video that is very chaotic and unpleasurable to watch for human eyes that are used to fluid stuffs.

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

obvious question - what camera are you using.

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

Another time I can say this.
One word. Macro.
Macro=Flower button/icon.

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

@BertL: Yeah, I found that setting, but It still doesn't get too close, and I actually don't have many focal problems, I've made a number of brickfilms and it hasn't caused trouble.
@Mobiledeli: Canon Powershot S30, I have a low budget, so I found it for 30 bucks on Ebay. mini/tongue  It was a step up from my old one though.

But now I believe my problems are solved! With an old telescope, two magnifying glasses, a slight zoom, and some ever popular duct tape, I've produced sort of lens! It works REALLY well, I can't figure out how to post the pics, but You'll see the effect in my future films. mini/bigsmile

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

that sounds awesome - telescope!

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

Haha! Thanks, yep pretty much, lol. the contraption don't look so pretty, but It WORKS!!!! mini/delirium  And that's what matters. mini/tongue

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

Tee hee, that's an awesome and creative solution. Who would have thought that a telescope would come in handy for minifig close ups? mini/bigsmile

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

I am intrigued to see a photo of this telescope set up, and the shots it produces.

Well, gee, that's WONDERFUL for you. But the OP does NOT have manual focus, so...

Re: Pulling Off Close Ups

Ooh, I forgot about this thread, anyone know an easy way for me to get a pic up? I have a lot of pics from a film that use my telescope/magnifying glass contraption.
