Re: YouTube

You can go on video manager and get rid of adds on some of your videos. So far, the only videos of mine that get more than 1,000 views are generally just my music videos, so when I do monetize, you'll only see adds on those videos.

Re: YouTube

I haven't tried to monetize yet (probably because I don't have any films on my channel), but I don't think you're allowed to monetize videos that use copyrighted material. So if you do monetize music videos, you should make sure that you have the rights to everything included in the video.

Re: YouTube

Hi, everyone!

I don't know of this thread is still active, but here goes....

I was wondering if anyone had some tips on growing your channel/audience so that more people are aware of you. I think my youtube channel is doing fairly well so far, but then I don't know what the norm is in terms of popularity when you have only posted about 10 videos (I know that being popular is by no means the most important thing, as for me as long as one person has seen my work I am happy). However, I would like to be able to reach more people.

Seeing as some of the most recent conversations have been about monetization, I just wanted peoples opinions on when the best time to monetize would be. I know that I am not going to be monetizing anytime soon, but I was just intrigued as to when I should and maybe even when other people started monetizing their videos (if at all!)

So, in summary, any tips on growing your channel or guidelines for when you should monetize or what videos you should monetize would be very much appreciated mini/smile

Re: YouTube

Despite always working on brickfilms, and also starting work in a museum, I am considering starting a second channel, dedicated to film reviews and film discussion in general. I love to talk about movies, and would really like to spend some of my spare time dedicated to this channel. Of course, I don't have all the time in the world right now, and I'll always want to focus more on animating, so I won't upload too often, maybe once a fortnight. What do you guys think?

Re: YouTube

@William, Do it! If you feel like you might want to, try it out. Don't do it for the views and money, but for the fun. Just have fun and experiment.

@LegoFigureProductions, I didn't see your post until just now. I'd say the best thing to do to build an audience is to just keep making good quality content and try to be relatively consistent. Obviously, animation prevents pure consistency, but uploading every once in a while is good. But even if you can't do that, just make sure all your work is your best work.

You should monetize. There's no reason not to, really. Unless, of course, you're using music or video that doesn't belong to you, then you shouldn't monetize those particular videos. But basically, monetization barely makes any money anyway, so the earlier you start, the better chance you have of making anything. I've been monetizing for three(?) years now, and I've only made about 70 dollars, most of which came off a really horrible tutorial video I made AGES ago. You have to have 100 dollars to even get a check. So, it's really up to you.

Re: YouTube

I'd always recommend monetising. I would never suggest letting it become your motivation for brickfilming, but there's no reason not to profit from your work (even if the profit margin is small). For a while, I was making about £200 a month from my channel. Now it's about £100 every three months, which I'm still extremely grateful for, and let's me enjoy myself a little more while I'm studying at uni. In my first year, I was really worried about finances and would go for weeks eating really poorly, but the extra money my channel generated really helped.

So I'd definitely say consider the option. Don't let it guide you, but even if it's not much, it can be a real help.

Re: YouTube

If I have a channel souly dedicated to  movie reviews, will it be a problem monetizing those videos, or am I allowed to use film content under fair use?

Re: YouTube

Ok thanks, rioforce and jampot for the replies (and I love your videos mini/tongue) This easter is going to be quite hectic for me, as I will probably be getting my first camera for animating and I will be working on an animation for some coursework, amongst other things. As I am currently very busy right now as well, I probably won't have a lot of time to do any admin stuff or sorting out monetization on videos till March, but I'll probably try and do it then. I doubt I'll make a significant amount of money (especially not anytime soon) but it will be a nice thing to have on the side of everything else mini/smile

Re: YouTube

@William If you 1) don't use the entire movie but just clips from it and 2) put the video in a frame, it should be fine. Fair use covers commenting on and critiquing content made by others. This channel does it all the time. Of course, if a copyright claim is added, good luck getting it off. You should do a bit of research on the topic of fair use.

Re: YouTube

Do you advise that I don't use the score music to the movies I'm reviewing, but instead play something else?

Re: YouTube

Hello, I was recently changing the layout of my channel. When I was finished, for some reason, it appears blank. Any tips?

Re: YouTube

I don't know if this is a new function or if I've just noticed it for the first time, but web series on YouTube seem to have a function where they show the season and episode number, as in 'SE02 EP12'. I was wondering if this is a free function, or do you have to pay for it, and if you know what to do, how do you do it? If I can do it, I would like to add this feature on my App Man series!

It may have something to do with this. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6084043?hl=en
I'm not sure because I don't have a series so I've never tried it. If you haven't done that already it's worth a shot, as it will at least ensure that the correct episode is displayed in "up next"

Re: YouTube

I'm having a bit of an issue. All my videos have suddenly been marked "not eligible for monetization," even ones that don't contain any copyrighted content. I don't have any copyright strikes or community guideline violations against my channel, so I'm having trouble figuring this out. Can anybody help me out?

Re: YouTube

YouTube sometimes does that because there are new community guidelines (well, they've been out for months now). Which ones specifically are demonetized?

Re: YouTube

What music are you using? Even some royalty free music have restrictions, like Machinimasound for example. A few of Machinimasound's music can only be used in non-monetized videos!

Re: YouTube

Demonetization is one of the reasons why a lot of YouTubers have opted for sponsors and Patreon.  Can't rely on YouTube ads anymore.
