I'm having trouble finding a good method for shattering glass. So far I have come up with:
1- Add the effect in post production or
2- cut out pieces of clear plastic and use them.
I could really use some help for a (hopefully) upcoming brickfilm.

Thanks, but I was hoping for something of a larger scale, like a large glass window smashing to pieces as someone goes flying through.

Well, the point of the SME tutorials aren't to show you the one and only way to create an effect, they are more of an inspiration and techniques you could implement for other uses. Try using the shattering effect on a large scale object, it can still work.
Okay, I understand what you're saying. Thanks for your help. Now I'm gonna kill this thread...
At 1:40 in this I throw a guy through a window using pretty much what NXT says in his tutorial.
Try taking some clear bricks and building your glass. Then basically animating it breaking with some blu-tac.
