It looks great BG, but I'll be more impressed if you manage to render that out in an animation using anything other than a white background!

What are you using for the eye material?

Haha, I think I'd have to turn off ambient occlusion if I did anything more than a white background!

For an eye material I'm using a cloud texture, and I have the emit value on the red set up to 1. However, I don't really like how the eyes turned out compared to the rest of it, so I might change the texture.

Re: The CGI Thread

It looks good, but the panels don't really look like they're firmly on at the moment, and the mirrors look a bit odd. Might want to change that, but I think you're doing good so far.

QUESTION: how do you make a cgi background in a stop motion scene? I know that I have to green screen and all that stuff.

That is right .. where is the problem?

You have to take a look on these things while creating the CGI background:
- (smoothing the edges of the bricks)
- camera properties
- position and angle
- colour of the stones
- lightning
- focal distance
- texture

Here is an example for a CGI background in a stop mation scene:

Great post Piet, really enjoyed that. I was not aware of your work before now, but it looks like you are doing some cool things.

Re: The CGI Thread

In Blender 2.55 whenever I select anything and try to move it it rotates. Is it just a bug or something I'm doing wrong? It never happens in older versions.

Wow BG!  mini/jaw

will you get mad at me if i completely copy your idea?       jk, but seriously, you inspired me to do something like that.  I never thought of making letters out of cgi legos.
