Clone Wars in LEGO

YouTube

The original Clone Wars theatrical trailer in LEGO.

A couple years ago when the first Clone Wars trailer leaked, I attempted to recreate that trailer in LEGO. I got half way done, then gave up. Since then I've been learning the ins and outs of Blender by working on other projects, trying to become the best at that program as I can be.

Two weeks ago I decided I needed to render something to see how much I've learned. This old project was the perfect vehicle to test with. And here is the result.

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

I'm not a real fan of CGI brickfilms but that was actually quite good. For some reason there was something
about the CGI Yoda that didn't seem right.

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

The CGI was quite amazing, but those ''large'' sets didn't came out the way they should be. Still, reading that you made this a couple years ago, I think you're very talented, and a great guy to have on BiM mini/bigsmile

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

Excellent! Making the model of Yoda's head must have been hard!

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

Yoda looked OK, but Grievous looked pretty weird. I liked it.

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

That was amazing. How did you texture the bricks in the first shot of the tan planet and give it that glow?

Thanks guys!

The Yoda model wasn't actually mine. I'm not sure where I picked that one up. The General Grievous head, on the other hand, was mine. But I figured since you only see it for about 3 secs, it wasn't worth making a new one.

I duplicated the original planet and gave the copy a halo material.

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

Okay, sounds good! I might try it out.

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

Well it helped me to overlook the fail of a movie it was made for. The effects are really well done, especially the lighting. I nearly jumped for joy when i saw the characters with no tennis-ball sized eyes.

I'm not going to keep saying "this was good" and "that was good" over and over and waste your time, so here it is;
Very well done, I loved it.  I would've, however, liked the whole trailer to have been done.

7/10 definitely worth a watch, go and see!

That would have been a killer to see for sure, but those battles would have been a killer to animate. mini/eek Likely three months minimum to do. The purpose of this was to just get something done fast, so it would have been counter productive.

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

Dude did you make all those models?

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

Not bad at all! Yoda did kinda give me the shivers though...

I do not care about your opinion, unless it has to do with it needing more ponies.

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

That was totally AWESOME!!!  You are an expert at CGI!  How did you get the dramatic lighting in the second scene???  We hope that someday we may even be HALF as good as you! mini/bigsmile

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

Wow! mini/bigsmile  That must have taken some time to make!  I liked it better than the original trailer (I thought THEIR CGI characters were creepy looking).  Great job!  I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Re: Clone Wars in LEGO

BuilderBrothers, I think in the second shot he added either a) a halo with a lot of verticies and several spot lights with the halo button turned on, or b) he found a way to make the background a really bright color like that.

I did a, but without spot lights for the effect. There were spotlights used in the scene, of course, just they didn't play a part in creating the light beams. In case anyone is interested, here are the halo settings I used for that shot:

Alpha - 0.005
Halo Size - 1.0
Hard - 127
Add - 0.1

We hope that someday we may even be HALF as good as you!

Always shoot to be the best, or you might as well give up now. mini/wink
