You make good points Jargon, but I'm going to defend my opinion.
I don't think anyone's tried to deny you your right to espouse your opinion (at least in this particular conversation). And if you refuse to consider changing your opinion, what's the point of engaging in a discussion?
Because being on the internet has hardened my into a stubborn jackass. When such strong emotions are exchanged, I dont think there is any way a persons opinion can be changed.
Have you ever seen How To Train Your Dragon? I missed that one in theaters, but as I watched the 2D version at home, I was struck by the way 3D would suit the film. It didn't "ruin" it, but when the sequel hits theaters, I'll be there.
Admittedly no (but I want to). It seems like 3D works well with animated features. But, honestly, is seeing a movie in 2D and wishing you were watching it in 3D a good thing?
Have you seen the box office lately? It kind of has. True, it may fizzle out, but given the amount of money tied into it on both the studio end and the theater end (not to mention home theaters), I find it unlikely.
Whilst I never think that Box-Office ratings mean anything in regards to quality, I agree that 3D recently has had a revival. But - according to some sources - its dying (although, these articles were published pre-Transformers 3). I do think 3D is catching on....but not in a good way. I'll get to why I think 3D could actually be good, but probably never will, later.
Yeah, there are attempts to bring 3D into our homes. In the UK - its still got a way to go, but its starting to catch on. I have incredibly mixed opinions about HV 3D which I cannot write down because I'll begin a Gollum-like internal debate...
You're really selling those movies short if you're asserting their greatest merit is their lack of 3D.
My argument is that A) They dont need 3D to engage us, and B) They will go down in history as incredible movies with legs (Meaning they will still hold up in years to come).
The only movie that has used 3D to try and suck us into its own world is 'Avatar' (but, again, I have not seen 'How To Train Your Dragon'). Whilst I believe 'Avatar' failed - I do think that if someone else tried it, it may succeed. I was actually looking forward to 'Avatar 2' because at first it seemed like it was dropping the pretentious crap about humans being bad and instead focusing on the internal conflicts created solely within the world of Pandora. I would love to see that! But no: 'Avatar 2' is still going to have humans trying to take over - and its hinted that the General character who I would give all my worldly possessions to gouge his eyes out with my bare hands will return.
3D should continue trying to do what 'Avatar' attempted to do. But no. In the same way I am crying out for a release of Michael Jacksons 'Bad' Tour, I am internally screaming for someone to do what 'Avatar' should IMO have been.
