What exactly do you mean by that? The Jewish Calendar has been in continual use for over 5,000 years, longer than the Mayan's calendar has every existed. By definition, a calendar is perpetual.

The recorded calendar only goes to 2012 it could keep going they just got sick of writing about a time thats so far away.

I figure that no one will ever know when Rapture (or whatever your religion's equivalent is; I personally refer to it as The Second Coming) will happen, because I think God would rather have a bunch of people who are constantly being good and repentant over a load of last-minute repenters.
