what is the best non webcam camera to use for stopmotion?
Do you know that you make the film on your computer?
You just take the images with your camera.
Well, why do you need to use a "non webcam camera" web cams are the best thing for stop motion on a low buget.
If it's because you want HD footage, then you would probably be sacrificing good animation, for a good picture.
And don't think web cams can't do HD, just look at Title is Irrelevant
It was shot with a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000
But if you really want to use a digital camera, a Canon Powershot A85 would be good (or one of the other Canon Powershot models)

Uh, no. Most Canon cameras do not support remote capture that are in store's today. Here' a list of the one's that do:

If you're looking for a low budget camera under 100, I would reccomend either the Canon A85 , (like Duke Boy said)Canon A95, rot eh Canon A620. Hope that helps. 
Remote capture software?
If you woukld liketo buy a Canon, so try the A520 Powershot.
Its only to get from Ebay.
The Software which came with the Canons are not realy usefull.
Don´t try it! You will waste your time

I use this Cam and CSMC too, and it works very well.
But:
To capture from Digicams is not the easyest way.
It will be easyer with the 9000. If you find some good capture-software.
i cant have a webcam because the software i use for editing does not work with webcams
How? You don't even hook up the webcam to the editing software, you hook it up to your computer and use it on your stop-motion program.

No I have a mac, I use iMovie HD, it is very good. it is similar to WMM but it is better and easier.
Oooooh, now I see, most webcams don't work on macs.
Didn´t work the 9000 on a Mac?????????????????????
The 9000 do HD-Pictures too, so it is not so bad to use the QC
Its easyer to use a webcam than any other Still-Digi-Cam!
Though, the 9000 is also available for Macs
just for what i do, a regular camera works better
