Topic: Filming with a Nikon D90?

Well seeing as my dad is an avid amateur photographer, I happen to have access to the Nikon D90. And I've seen the rewards of such a great camera (ie. Patrick Bovin (sp?)). However, I have no idea where to start, what kind of software to use or what to do. I've done a bit of research, and it points to "Dragon Stopmotion" program, but I don't have any funds to spend at the moment.

I'm hoping to learn how to film properly with this software, seeing as I have everything I need (great camera, decent amount of LEGO, custom 'figs, and even CS4 Master).

So where should I begin?

Get a desk and grey baseplate, first. Make sure you tape/blue tack your set down.Get a tripod, or if you can't afford one, make a camera cradle. I might make a tutorial on camera cradles for digital cameras soon. You might also want to visit some other threads.

I don't mean start from there.:lol:

I've done stop motion before, but with a SLR camera it's pretty different. Tons of settings, and what kind of software.

try using a firewire and monkeyjam, never tried that with a SLR though. If that doesnt work you could just use remote capture if your dad bought it. Settings just all manual like the 9000 your probably used to.

Read this. For capturing though, use Monkeyjam or Photothief if you have a Mac.
