Topic: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

When i use it can it be used without a cord that must connect to my computer? i would prefer to use it upstairs in my room, but my computer is downstairs.... i am just getting started with brick filming and will probably be getting my camera on Christmas.

thanks!

Re: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

Ok first, welcome to the site!

Second, there has recently been loads of 9000 questions lately each in different topics, it would be nice to keep them all together ('Discuss Quickcam Pro 9000' topic, or whatever its called. [Found Here, if you have any questions later on in your animation life regarding the QCP9K])

And last, no, I don't have one, but I 'm pretty sure that it is not wireless and so you would have to be in the wires range of the computer. Sorry.

EDIT: Or, if you really wanted to have it upstairs, you could get a USB extension cord, (which can probably be found in any PC store)

Re: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

If you do however get a USB extension cord, make sure to get a high quality brand name one. With lower quality cables the signal can get disrupted and other issues, depending on how long it has to travel.
Not to worry however because most cables can travel about 200' without the signal getting disrupted.

Re: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

Also if you have an extension cord you would have to run up and down the stairs for every frame

Yeah, and that ^^

Unless you have a wireless keyboard

Thats a good point but whilst he is animating with his animation program a popup may come up that would mean that the keyboard would no longerbe controlong the animation program which means that he will have done a lot of wasted animation plus if he wants to adjust his shot slightly he would have to run up and down the stairs constantly.
This all sounds like a lot of wasted time.Is there another solution?

Hope this helps!!!!

Re: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

I do agree with the wasted time bit, but I also disagree.

Generally, when you have a wireless keyboard, you also have a wireless mouse - Problem solved. EDIT: My bad, he would be able to see the screen.

Why would he have to run up and down stairs to adjust the shot? EDIT: Oh you mean the preview window... right.

But yeah, this is a waste of time, don't do it, unless you want to get fit by running up and down stairs (but it would also make the animating process waaaaayyy too long).

EDIT: I didn't think through your post properly mini/wink

Re: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

What is stopping you from moving your computer upstairs is it like a family computer or something or is ther a way you could do your animation downstairs?

But he could get a wireless monitor. mini/tongue
Why can't you just animate downstairs by your computer?

Re: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

Well you all make good points that he could just get loads of wireless stuff but that would cost lots and I think it is more effort than it is worth.
I think he should just move his computer or is it a family computer.

Re: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

Having your computer not too far away from the set you're animating in is crucial, especially when you animate on your own. Being able to quickly assess whether the frame and animation are set up right is simply too important.

Re: Logitech Quick Cam 9000 question

Yes I totally agree having your computer close is crucial if you want your resulting animation to look smooth because you need to constantly check your angle and composition etc.
