Topic: Facial Animation in After Effects?

Okay, so, lately I've noticed moving minifigure's arms around to simulate "Talking" action, looks a bit too odd for my liking, let alone it not being very original. So, now I want to make all of my future videos a mix of arm movements, and facial/mouth animation. As you all know, I recently obtained Adobe After Effects (*Brag mini/tongue *), and would like to learn how to do facial animation with that. But, I've searched the forums, and google, and could not find a tutorial. So, I come to you guys, on a hopeful tutorial. I've tried the puppet tool, but that looks really strange, and, I don't want to do it frame by frame necessarily (I will if I must), so, is there anyway I can do minimal animation, and still get a nice result?

(By the way, I know about glue face and Papagayo, but, those seem to not work on my computer mini/confused )

I have a couple examples of Mouth Animation I would like to try to get the same result as.

KG's "There Will Be Bricks"
Smeagol's "Lost Clip"
and RatBoy's Test

Thanks for reading guys. Any help or tips would be great mini/wink

Re: Facial Animation in After Effects?

It would be nice to see a basic and easy version to do it.

Re: Facial Animation in After Effects?

Yeah, that seems a bit too complicated... And, personally, I wouldn't like to spend days on end rotoscoping mini/confused

Re: Facial Animation in After Effects?

mini/lol  if you want to have good effects that pay off, you almost always have to rotoscope, MOL. That's why I am forced to spend hours in my basement on the computer.

Re: Facial Animation in After Effects?

And you do other stuff for hours, in your basement, on the computer mini/tongue

Anyways, I know I will have to rotoscope, I just don't want to do as much KG did. It seemed a bit excessive, although, I will rotoscope as much as I need to, if that is the only way possible mini/blankexpression

People really don't like it when new people act like moderators.

Re: Facial Animation in After Effects?

Well you can do it forrestfire101 style but it wouldnt look that professional, and it would make animating ALOT faster!

I have awesome sauce in my veins! Which i sprinkle on each of my videos to give it an extra dose of aweomseness!

Please, Do not Mention the 'F' Person here.
He is the most overrated 'Brickfilmer' (If you even can call him that).

Re: Facial Animation in After Effects?

C'mon, not the tri-monthly "I F*KIN' HAET FF1O1!!!!!1!!!!!" war mini/blankexpression I see nothing at all wrong with ForrestFire, he's an improving brickfilmer and just because he uses different techniques doesn't mean he's overrated mini/confused Well, anyway, continue your AE conversation, PLEASE.

Re: Facial Animation in After Effects?

I agree, Aaron. Yes, ForrestFire was overrated, but, he's proven that he is capable of good stories to me a couple times already.

Anyways, yes, tips? KG? Ratboy? Smeagol? mini/sad

The reason for that is, that's not what overrated means.

I'd make a new comp and put together the facial animation, then bring it into the footage and wrap it onto the face.
