Re: Photography
Another shot of our county courthouse, this time with a bit of snow on the ground. Well below zero with wind chills the day I took this one. Shot with a 60D DSLR.

I am generally pleased with this particular shot. I think that I'm now getting used to my DSLRs abilities!
C&C is welcome!

If you don't mind me asking, what macro filter is that? I'm looking to buy one for my camera.
megagill74, I like the gradient of the light, and the jaggedness of the fly's legs is really interesting, It's a good photo. ![]()

Damn good shots there bud.
Nice shooting.
I really like some of your shots of the town at night.
Here I've done an experiment with mist to add atmosphere:

I didn't actually use any sort of smoke or mist for this.
I'm really wanting to find a method to get mist into animation, unfortunately, thus far this one only works well for still photos because the mist is very uneven from frame to frame, but it still looks pretty cool.
I did it with a really long exposure and waved a piece of tissue paper all about. Really this is just a whole lot of blur.
yeah, maybe mask the real mist with a layer or two of fake in post....
I can't see the picture Squid.

That's seriously cool, impractical for filming, but cool.
Congratulations on finding yet another really cool in-frame technique.
It's really fun to do, I'd suggest giving it a try because it feels so delightful.
Darkmoor has some scenes with lots of very quick nightmarish imagery, in which I might be able to use this effect anyway despite the fact that it shivers in a strange way. It might actually be fitting in the surreal context of that scene.
It also works reasonably well for animating quick smoke, though. Like a puff that pops up when a character disappears, or maybe something coming from an explosion. But as as a constant haze to just complement the lighting, it doesn't quite work.
I took a few pictures with the technique, and here's another one I really liked:

OH MY GOOODDDDD THAT'S AMAZING

You could actually do that with blender and After Effects. You can motion track your shot in Mocha which comes with AE, then take that motion tracked shot and import it to blender. Create a light source and then use Cycles to create the mist. export as an .ae file. Import the mist blender file and use it turn it into a 3D object, badda boom. You just created volumetric mist/fog for your shot.
I have an obsession with using almost entirely in-shot effects, with my only exception being flares, which are still lit in-shot, but that flare is added, as well as effects involving the blending of two pictures together or modifications to colour. So I wouldn't want to do that.
I don't have AE, and even if I did, adding digital mist wouldn't create the same effect. The light bounces off of the tissue blur and diffuses the light from the window, thus the dark side of the Mayor's assistant's body is significantly brighter than it would have been otherwise.
Today I drove up to the Los Angeles Crest in the San Gabriel Mountains for a few hours with my parents and I took a minifigure to take pictures of.
Here are some of the pics (most of them are fixed up in Photoshop):
