Avant-garde (French pronunciation: [avɑ̃ɡaʁd]) means "advance guard" or "vanguard".[1] The adjective form is used in English, to refer to people or works that are experimental or innovative, Avant-garde represents a pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm or the status quo. That is what the goal for this contest is.
I'm pushing the boundaries of my film-making abilities by making the film at the last minute. ![]()

Jeez you guys, this contest was announced like 10 months ago. You guys are LAZY.
I made about 25% of every film idea of mine for the contest. And I had 5 (not including the one I'm actually doing).
Just wondering... Is sound effects from FindSounds okay to use in our entries?
-JK
I was just going to ask that. ![]()
Is sound effects from 'freesounds' allowed?

Oh dear, I hope so.

Isn't cliche the opposite of avant-garde?
-JK
Yeah, hence the NOT avant-garde. I mean you say it's going to be cliché, so why enter it in Avant-Garde ?
Findsounds.com does not guarantee you free rights to use the sound effects you find for something such as this. It is merely a search engine for individual sound files, not a database of original, royalty-free sounds. It's probably worth it to go to the webpage where the sound is featured and see if you can find any sort of disclaimer about it, or look for a way to contact the site administrator and ask them yourself.
Kinz, assuming you're talking about the Free Sound Project, all of the sound effects on the site are under Creative Commons licenses, so as long as you follow the conditions specified, you should be fine.

Like Google Images with images, Findsounds does not own the sounds you find using it; it is a search engine. So most sounds there are probably copyrighted.
Freesound.org is usually fine, just make sure to check the license on any particular sound, like MindGame said.

The film I'm entering is a Western, but it's not going to be cliche, of course.

Oops, missed that.
Alright, thanks Smeagol.
I have another question, would clay blood be considered excessive violence?

I would imagine that excessive violence doesn't mean the type of blood/violence. Sure, the unrealistic clay blood makes it a bit better, but I think excessive violence means anything not crucial to the plot/character development.
Alright. I won't be using much of it anyway. ![]()
