Yeah I probably won't finish in time.

After a five year hiatus, I have returned

I think though I'm going to try as hard as possible to finish my project!

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

I'm beginning to think that Rêve won't be finished in time for Avant-Garde. I had to stop animating for about a week while I waited for some parts that I should have bought a long time ago. *Sigh* It should be coming out shortly after though.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I was SO looking forward to your film!! mini/sad

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

It should be coming in August so don't worry. After more than half a year of brainstorming and writing, I'm not about to give up on it yet. mini/tongue

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

Sad day.

I'll admit, my expectations for the entries of this contest are really pretty low at this point.  My general impression is that most people are dropping out or planning to churn out a quick entry at the last minute, which is the opposite of what I'd hoped for by announcing the contest in November.  mini/confused

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

Well Smeagol, I think that since the contest was posted so early, people decided to make huge films for Avant-Garde that were larger than they had expected. This will turn out rather unfortunate mini/sad .

I'm not going to "churn out" my entry as you say smeagol. I am going to work hard on it. it's taken me a long to to decide what I was going to do thats all. and I have been thinking about this movie for a long time so it will be well done.

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

I don't know, Juggernaut.  I didn't hear about a lot of people planning huge projects far in advance that they just aren't going to finish in time.  Mostly just people starting entries less than a month before the deadline and that sort of thing.

I am definitely sort of hoping that my expression of disappointment here will help challenge people to do their best.  But frankly, less than a month of production is just not what I'd hoped for, by announcing in November I'd hoped people would maybe think about ideas for a couple months and then have half a year to make their entries.  Legosword89, I wasn't meaning to criticize you specifically; the "sad day" part was directed at Greenscreener noting he couldn't make the deadline.

I don't regret picking a challenging theme that requires some creative thought in coming up with a concept.  I was really disappointed with the STAR entries; with the exception of Night Owl I felt that everybody took very safe, obvious, literal approaches to the theme despite requests in the announcement that that be avoided.  I wanted to ensure that couldn't happen again with this contest.

That said, I have begun thinking about ideas for the 2011 contest and have a few frontrunners.  I do want to come up with something that people won't hopefully struggle with so much but will still encourage people to try new things.

I still think we have plenty of time. mini/tongue

But that's just me, I'm good under pressure. I won't disappoint you, Smeagol.

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

I almost finished my entry, in time!

Smeagol,
Do you know how many people have completed an entry for the contest?

I have too admit, it's mostly my fault for not taking full advantage of the time I had earlier. July seemed so far away in November and I took things way too slowly until a couple months ago.

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

Geez, way to drop the poo poo Smeagol. You’re already so disappointed you have started planning the next contest? Before the deadline and the entries have even been seen. I may be in the minority but I'm sure there are others that simply don't crow all the time about their AG entry and how its progressing.

I made a few BrickLink orders after STAR finished last year and had a good overall story idea but didn't start animation tests until early 2010.
Needless to say my first 3 Avant-Garde ideas were not good enough and were scrapped. Eventually I opted to tell a story with just visual's and rock music. No dialogue and very few sound fx. For lack of a better term a Rock Opera. I thought it would be easy as my friend Rob had just released a solo album and was happy for me to use and promote his work. Animating to match a music score was more difficult than I thought. Especially when you consider the type of music Rob makes is generally heavy. His regular band just plays Metal.

With final post production expected to take me right up to the deadline I doubt I will have time to edit a trailer. It has taken me the whole year to find 400+ hours to pull this together. I waste so much time experimenting, having shot some scenes 3 or 4 times to get them the way I want. So far so good. It is looking and sounding tops.

So is a musical brickfilm avant-garde enough?

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

I'm going to film the second scene today(if I can find my tripod)..

Re: BiM 2010: Avant-Garde [CLOSED]

@Smeagol I was actually referring to myself. My brother & I tried to rush an entry without the proper equipment, story, & a little bit of inadequate animation. It turned out not so well, so we canned the project, as many other people canned or are delaying their projects after Avant-Garde. Now I know for sure we will not enter A-G, since it is almost over. So we're planning on next years theme, even though it hasn't even been announced yet.
