Topic: A Year Watching Movies!

NOTE: I, personally, am doing this for the folks at RiffTrax, especially Kevin Murphy. Kevin Murphy, for the entire years of 2001, went to a movie theater and saw a movie. However, he did see a couple movies multiple times. I am watching a DIFFERENT movie each day.

Hey guys, I'm watching a movie EVERY day, for an entire year. Starting today, July 19th 2009, which I watched 28 Weeks Later. Well, now I need more movies to watch to help me on my quest. So, I am asking you the community, to suggest movies for me to watch.

Thanks.

Re: A Year Watching Movies!

I agree with Sméagol's comment about your signature.

I am filled with terror at the thought of you spending an entire year watching lame 90s and 2000s flicks. Check out the following directors:

Terrence Malick
Werner Herzog
John Cassavetes
Jim Jarmusch
Francis Ford Coppola
Bernardo Bertolucci
Robert Altman
Todd Haynes
Coen Brothers

If you want to watch some hilariously bad movies:

Manos: The Hands of Fate
Hawk the Slayer
Turkish Star Wars
Yor: The Caveman from the Future
THE ROOM

Re: A Year Watching Movies!

Why not work your way down a list of films considered the best of all time? Empire Magazine did one recently.

Re: A Year Watching Movies!

Meh, I don't think that list is too good; one the one hand, it does include some great stuff and doesn't put Citizen Kane at No. 1 for once, but on the other hand I think it veers too far towards the mainstream taste.

This is an interesting list I think.

In general, though I think it's best to take a genre or style you're genuinely interested in and look for the best examples of it you can find. So, Droid, what movies do you like?

Re: A Year Watching Movies!

To start off I would just watch as many movies that are related to one another. You can do series as you can think of, sorta like what Mutuceba said. (LOTR, Harry Potter, etc.) You can watch movies by a certain director (For example Tim Burton with Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpes Bride, etc.) Finally, you can also watch movies with a certain actor or actress in it. (For example Will Smith with I Am Legend, I Robot, Men In Black, etc.) This will help you get a good start and you will know exactly which movie to watch next.

Re: A Year Watching Movies!

Tim Burton didn't do Coraline. I haven't seen it. But I don't think he did. Did he?

Re: A Year Watching Movies!

Henry Selick Directed, which throws some people off because he also directed Nightmare before Christmas, which most people think Tim Burton directed and in all the commercials for Coraline they said "From the person who brought you The Nightmare Before Christmas..."
