Topic: Where to find effects?
Hey BIM.
Where is a good site to find effects like gun flares, lightning and so forth to add in editing?

Video Copilot seems to have some pretty decent stock footage.
I know Video Blocks has some decent stock footage (not free, however ). I haven't actually used it myself due to the fact that I prefer doing everything in camera, but I know Kevin Ulrich does.
As mentioned above, I really do promote the idea of using footage from the "Action Essentials 2" package from Video Co-Pilot, but this does have a moderate price-tag on it, but it's really good if you have the extra money. If you don't have such a budget, I'd recommend detonation films as "MarkNelsonMovies" suggested above, I believe they offer some free Stock footage for download.
Check out Hitfilm 4 Express. The free version has lightning, and customization lens flares (much better than the basic After Effects' flares), plus some decent rain, fire, smoke, etc. simulations. All that, beside the fact that it has color correction and stylize effects, stabilization/tracking capabilities, keying, and much more.
I'm pretty sure Hitfilm 4 express doesn't have fire simulations.

I just checked, and yes it does. It includes a bonfire effect, and magic fire, as well as fire explosion and magic fireball effects.
If more/different options are needed, you can purchase the Destruction pack for $25, which includes all kinds of fire, explosions, etc..
