Topic: Man's Best Friend: Production Topic

This past summer I began production on an entry into the Darkness and Light contest called Man's Best Friend. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete my entry on time, but despite that, I still plan on finishing the film. It has been on the back burner for the past few months and it is only now that I've started production again.

The premise of the story is that a depressed man goes through the mundane routine of his life until he meets a special dog who brings him happiness.

I've been somewhat unsatisfied with the animation that I've done so far so I may go back an re-animate a good number of scenes. Additionally, I have made several major script revisions.

JonnDthunDer was kind enough to work on the soundtrack for the film from the very beginning of production. He has done an amazing job and I would like to continue my collaboration with him if possible.

Here are some frames from production:

Re: Man's Best Friend: Production Topic

Whoa....those stills look fantastic.
The lighting, the sets, the camera angles, they are all stunning.

I'm so glad you decided to share these, as well as finish the film. If this is any indication, it'll be well worth the wait.

The lighting in the first shot is perfect. Even without reading any text, I knew instantly that it was a sad/depressing shot.
Nice use of micro-scale, as well as real water in the third frame, though the gigantic drops on the buildings ruin a bit of the forced-perspective illusion.

I don't think I've ever seen a more perfectly messy kitchen in Lego, that frame is great. But wouldn't you have a lot of trouble with prop bumps in that shot?

Your use of colorful lighting in the last two is sublime. I'd expect it in a still photography shot, but to see that in a moving bricking will be quite the treat. What are the balloons in the last shot? I don't think I've seen them done like that before.

Oh wow, those are beautiful frames. I look forward to following this production!

Yeah, it's definitely a tight space. Luckily I didn't have to animate the character walking past the table. I also stuck down all the miscellaneous items with sticky tac.

The balloons are just mini party balloons I found in my garage cupboard. They're made of a really light plastic. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I got them.
