Topic: Does anyone use their Ipods or Phones for Stop-Motion?

So I was wonder if anyone else used their phone for their videos.  I use my Ipod Touch with an really good app I found for it (Cost me four bucks! mini/smile).  Does anyone else do the same?

Re: Does anyone use their Ipods or Phones for Stop-Motion?

I made an attempt at it once for fun (couple of months ago, maybe a little more) but I didn't like the results much. That said, it was a heck of a lot more manoeuverable than a DSLR, but that as a pro didn't really outweigh the cons.

If it works for you though, then why not? I'd suggest finding a better camera but hey, if it works, then it works. The first camera I used for stop-motion was this thing the size of a memory stick that could only store 20 photos at a time, all of which were terrible quality.

I used to use stop motion apps on my phone for about a year or so, it worked okay for me but took lots of time with the editing and effects and started using a canon camera instead. This was one of my films using the free app, iMotion

I'm curious how well this sort of thing can work. It seems to me like smartphone cameras are starting to catch up with webcams, but you'd need manual controls and some focus ability to really get nice, controllable results.

Re: Does anyone use their Ipods or Phones for Stop-Motion?

A lot of my older films were filmed on an iPod, and last year I my BiM Celebration contest entry was filmed on my iPhone 4s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW8ZjYsYDtM

The iPhone is definitely better than a webcam (or most of them anyway), and with the right software you can take control over the different aspects of the camera, but a DSLR is still better.

Re: Does anyone use their Ipods or Phones for Stop-Motion?

I've made just about four films using my iPod(5th gen), some better than others. I downloaded an app called Stop Motion Studio for pretty cheap, and with it I was able to manually control the exposure, white balance, as well as focus. So, if you've got nothing else to work with, an iPod camera could be doable if your willing to spend a bit of money.

Here are a few examples of films I've shot with my iPod:

I got the same app when I was working on a film festival. For most of my film, I got through it with iMotion but it started to fail and glitch up a lot. Most of my progress was gone and I went and got stop motion studio. It saved my entry. So I agree with GHB that even though it is for the iphone, it works really great.

I use my Galaxy Note 4 and Camera application for animation, but only because I don't have the computer power to upgrade to anything better. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade to something better within the next year (probably a DSLR) so I can really immerse myself in the hobby.

No. I do not use a phone. I use the logitech c920 webcam.
