Re: BiM Summer Contest: Darkness & Light Production Topic
Those drawings are so much better than my story board drawings.

Sounds like my kind of film making.
Looks good Rioforce, that's a square of four 10"x10" plates ain't it? Nice use of the old raised baseplates.
A cool and fully-functional streetlight. And an odd car-thing....With soon-to-be-installed working headlights.
I love the streetlight and how it turned out, but I never was any good at building vehicles.
Thankfully it'll only be in the background and rarely in focus.
I call it speed-boarding so please excuse the crude drawings
Yes, unfortunately, we perfectionists must make sacrifices when under a deadline. I've had to make a few myself... there's one shot where a character climbs into bed... it looks more like he eases up onto the edge and gets sucked in.
Yess!! I scrapped my old script idea due to it being too vague and confusing and I started with a new, more focused script which I'm actually very pleased with half way through writing. This contest will be great.
A bit worried about finishing my entry on time, because of being busy... and I'm having two wisdom teeth removed tomorrow, which will put me down for a while. This past week, I have been building a pretty cool (in my opinion) set... a science-fiction style breakroom with working ceiling lights.
I have begun filming a darker scene. I only used one lamp to achieve a darker atmosphere:
Just captured the last frame for Scene 6.
That means only 4.5 pages worth of script left to film. Not quite half-way with regards to volume, but most of the scenes left are shorter ones, requiring a lot of set building and rearranging between shoots, but also scenes that, for the most part, can be filmed in one (long-ish) sitting.
Most of my voices are ready, with only one voice actor yet to turn his lines in. I'll need a few other lines for extras, but otherwise that's all good to go. And I've got about three minutes worth of the film in some sort of rough-cut stage.
Brick Block, great job of implementing the principle of only building what the camera sees. Just remember that it's the position and intensity of the lamp(s) that makes things dramatic as much as the number.
Top Hat, hang in there man. You can do it. You'd be amazed just how much can be done quickly when you start to feel the deadline approaching. (THAC, for example) And I'd love to see the set once it's finished.
Thank you Pritchard. I will take that advice for the rest of the film. I am excited about how much I have learnt from you guys here on BiM. After all this is my first contest.
Finally am on the brink of filming the first scene. Here's a test image that should be pretty similar to the final shot.(I'm hoping) Any critiques are welcome before I begin filming! I'm liking it for the most part so far, but I feel a more solidified subject could be added to the frame, not completely sure.

Ah, didn't see this before. (Due to the recent edit time I guess.)
It looks nice, I like the heavily desaturated feel, but seeing the studded top of the wall is a downside (Tiles would look better if you have to show the top.) At first I thought that the black wall was a real bedroom wall, so you may wanna do something about that. Perhaps have slopes where the bottom wall transitions into the black one? Or breaking up that black with something else?
I like the big empty feel, but I think it could use some more little props and details scattered around. And you're right, it's hard to know what we need to look at. Are the people at the table the subject? Try to draw a bit more attention to them if you could.
As for me, finally finished a tough scene, destroyed the set, then realized that I had another scene with that location...
Obviously the next step was to change the script.
Been getting a lot done, but had to stop and wait on more Lifelite stuff to come in.

I did that same thing. Luckily, the set wasn't too terribly hard to rebuild so I didn't have to change the script.
I have most of the scenes finished animating for my film. I have tons of post-production work to do, so I had to cram it a lot of animation this week. Basically, ever night last week and this week until 2am, I was animating, and this week, I animated in the day time as well as night. It's like BRAWL before BRAWL. Now with the real BRAWL happening, I'll have to either finish up the animation I need to do on this set today, or wait until after BRAWL.
Anyway, to make up for not posting on this topic sooner, here's a WIP frame that still needs work

Since everyone is posting very nice frames of their work, I though I'd post one of mine.
It's obviously not a very revealing shot, but I haven't animated much since I only began entering this competition in early July
Hopefully I can get more done before I go on holiday for a week and in the afternoons after school.
There seem to be a lot of space-themed entries.
Well, I'm taking a bit of a break to work on BRAWL, and then we'll see if I can finish this with a month left!

Thanks. I'm gonna reshoot that shot tonight hopefully with an improved look.
These all look cool I was gonna do one and had a pretty good idea, but I had to drop out.
