Topic: Batman: Ace of Knaves production log

Hiyas.

Welcome to the production log for Batman: Ace of Knaves, a dark superhero film that takes place during Batman's early years. Perhaps an alternate Year One storyline.

The basic plot revolves around Red Hood, leader of the Hood Gang, and his transition from career criminal to the pawn of Carmine Falcone, and beyond... The GCPD feature heavily throughout the film, their corruption being a constant subplot.

I've never done a production log before, but I'm taking this film a lot more seriously than my previous work. Evidence of this will become apparent as I update.

Progress Update 12/1/15

Steadily getting lines from my voice actors and putting together the scenes in audio format, I'm loving the quality of the acting as I have several professionals this time around. I still have to send several people the script, but mostly the sound is all sorted out.

I'm also on the lookout for a composer, I have someone who impressed me a lot with their demo, and I'm just weighing up my options before hiring him.

The voice talent featured in Ace of Knaves includes: Coulter Rail, Aaron Bulger, John McBride, Justice Washington, Adrian Good, Jack Buttrum, Tyron Trist-Mager, Nick Nitkowski Jr, Isaac Smith, Elizabeth Scarheart, Minnesota, Bryn Jones, Allana Carnie and Charlie Winski.

This sounds exciting! I love it when people do more serious superhero brickfilms (the internet is saturated with parodies). Are you aiming to release this before or after Nattodesu Episode 4?

I'm guessing you mean the original Red Hood, and not Jason Todd? That's something that I don't think has ever been covered in a Batman brickfilm, which could be really interesting depending how you do it.

Are you still looking for any voice actors?

I know, parodies are all well and good, but they all seem to blend together after a while. Most suffer from Forrestfire-Syndrome.

Before, I need to figure some stuff out revolving around Nattodesu. Rest assured, it is coming. Just later.

Yes, the original Red Hood. He is one of my favourite characters and feel like he is way underused, they touched upon it in Under the Red Hood, and The Killing Joke has some interesting ideas, but I want to leave my own mark upon such an interesting character.

I need a few minor characters, such as police officers and a reporter. You're welcome to audition if you want.

Progress Update 13/1/14

The remote for my new DSLR arrived, so I started filming. Admittedly, the shot I did turned out awful, so I won't use it. But still. This represents a frame of the first shot filmed on Ace of Knaves.

Progess Update 14/1/15

Animation is officially under way!

Bruce Wayne (Coulter Rail), Lucius Fox and Lex Luthor (Both Justice Washington) discuss a project concerning both their companies, and some issues Lex is having with "some nut-bag running around in tights" in Metropolis.

Progress Update 19/1/14

I have been getting quite a bit of work done on Ace of Knaves the past weeks, first and foremost, I have successfully got myself a composer in the form of Guy Commanderson.

I have also cast the few remaining roles and began animating in earnest. I hope to have the film released by mid-March, but I have learnt to never put a release date on something this early, so we'll see. mini/smile

Progress Update 25/01/12

After about a week away from production because of animation issues, I'm back to it. I've just filmed the first full scene with Batman in costume and wanted to talk about the minifigure I will be using.

Mask: Standard Angular Mask.
Head: Christian Bale Batman head from the new Tumblr set, a minifigure I bought specifically for the head for Ace of Knaves.
Cape: Standard Batman Cape, old stiff material.
Torso: Custom-Printed Arkham City torso from Fig-Nation on Ebay.
Hands: Purple, as a reference to Batman's first appearance.
Legs: Standard Dark Blueish Grey.

Personally, I love the figure as a whole. Thoughts?

Looking very nice. I do think you should upload your photos using a lower resolution as it takes a long time to load each photo.

Progress Update 29/01/14

Production is proceeding pretty steadily, a few actors have not sent their lines in yet, one of which is a very large role that is preventing me from proceeding with filming any of the first act while the rest are quite small roles. The actor that has not sent their lines made me aware that they would be away for a few weeks, but that was before Christmas, so I'm not sure how long I can wait before I have to go ahead and recast, something that I wouldn't really like to do.

Just so that this is not a complete 'whine about stuff' update, have a picture. This is the GCPD headquarters, it is based on the Old Gotham version, before the events of Batman: Cataclysm destroyed it.

Progress Update 12/3/15

Production is going okay. I'm having many, many delays with voice actors. Starting with a month long delay through the entirety of February as I recast Red Hood. Now, having cast Red Hood, the actor I cast as Deadshot is currently undergoing surgery, creating another (if understandable) delay.

Here are a few frames to hold you guys over until then. (Varying aspect ratios incoming, this is because of the way they were saved when posting elsewhere, the issue is not present in the film)
