Topic: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

http://i.imgur.com/NuTDbui.png

A friend of mine and I have written up a script and did voices for my next brickfilm short "Disney XD". It's a single scene where the characters are discussing what the XD part at the end of the name stands for.

Here's a frame of the first shot.

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

I finished two more shots today, but I'm thinking about reanimating both of them a couple of times and using the one I like the best.

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

Hmm looks interesting. Really like that frame. Just be carful re animating shots to much or it might make you start not wanting to finish.[Im just speaking from my experience I have a real problem not redoing shots and then sometimes I get tired of animating But you might be totally different. I'll have to give this a watch when it comes out!

I'm reanimating it for blocking purposes, just so everyone knows.

Here's a photo of my desk at the moment and the set and everything.

Haha, nice TV. You definitely only build what the camera sees!

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

This post made me curious as to what the name actually stands for, so I did some googling:

Spoiler (click to read)

According to Gary Marsh, President of Entertainment for Disney Channel Worldwide, "XD" does not "stand for anything" and was chosen simply because it looked "cool."

Good Job, Disney. Ur the raddest.

Looking forward to your film, the set looks pretty nice!

Here's what would have been my next shot, but I decided to pan the camera to the left a little bit more.

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

I finished one of the longer shots of the video. Getting really frustrated at my stop motion capture software, being really slow and all. But I took a time lapse of me animating it, but it's not that interesting really.

The color on it is really nice. I wish I had more colors like dark red, and brown.

I got those dark red bricks at the PaB wall at the LEGOland Discovery Center's gift shop in late July of 2014. I got two buckets, and that must have been my favorite purchase of LEGO.

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

I'm having a hard time animating Kevin (the guy with scratched face) without bumping Steve (Octan guy), but thankfully my frame capture software has an undo button. The last few shots I just took tonight are a lot brighter than the rest of the film, and I think it has to do with the fact that the paper in front of the lamps is closer to the bulb than before. I think I'm going to reshoot every thing I did this evening so that I can make it darker and I can fix some other mistakes I made while animating this portion. It's 13 seconds of animation to reshoot.

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

Finished that retake and every mistake that I made is fixed, but there are three bumps of the camera in the new footage. Oh well.

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

Finished about 6 seconds of animation last Friday. I wasn't really feeling well, then but here is a behind the scenes photo of my desk. This is the first animation I've ever done with paper over the lamps as shown.

Edit: I noticed that the image is upside down. Well, it's not on Flickr. Just click on the image and it will show you the image right side up on the Flickr website.

I like the upside down image!
Just curious, is that regular college ruled (notebook) paper?

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

Well, it's… notebook paper… But I wouldn't say it's college ruled. It's not as thick as regular printer and makes the scene not as dark.

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

Whatever material it is, make sure that it is completely attached to the lamps. If you use sticky tac or thin tape, the paper will slowly detach and cause a ton of flicker in the final cut. I'd use duct tape or something similar.

Re: "Disney XD" production log and behind the scenes photos

I think the tape I'm using is strong enough. I haven't seen any light flicker in the footage I've shot so far.
