Topic: Trailer Soundtrack Alternative Help!!!

Some fellow brickfilmers and I (currently me, Galactic Bricks and Atlas Animationz, though I've contacted a few others and am still looking for a couple more) are making our own Lego Marvel continuity, and as part of that I've just started planning out a 'trailer' for the project's blog, which will fill in the gaps between our brickfilms. It'll contain footage from our various animations, plus some new footage I'm hoping to shoot soon.

My only problem so far is music. Decent royalty-free trailer music is hard to find, but I already have some tracks I could use for the typical trailer score. However, I'm hoping to do a large segment in the same style as this videos 'Spirit in the Sky' segment. I can't use the song itself, as it's copyrighted, but I still want use a track with the same kind of beat - a track which sounds extremely similar to 'Spirit in the Sky'.

Does anyone have any ideas for pieces of music I could use (no copyrighted tracks, thanks), or should I go for a more traditional trailer 'rhythm'?

Are you only interested free royalty-free music or do you have a budget to purchase a piece?

Re: Trailer Soundtrack Alternative Help!!!

No budget at all. I'm only looking for completely royalty-free, as I am always tight on cash (and I believe there's always a free solution if you look hard enough mini/bigsmile ).

Re: Trailer Soundtrack Alternative Help!!!

I understand the royalty-free part, but there is a difference between free music that is also royalty-free and paid-for music that is royalty-free. Quality being the main part, as well as variation and customizability.

My suggestion is to try and come up with $80-100 and get yourself a nice bit of music that will cover the whole team through the whole project.  Otherwise you do risk your stuff sounding like everyone else's stuff because there is a finite supply of free music on the net.  The same thing goes for sound effects, for that matter.

On the other hand, if you can find someone to compose the score for free as part of the project, that is the best way to go.

Re: Trailer Soundtrack Alternative Help!!!

Like I said, I have no budget. At all. There is no way I can afford to spend $15 on a project, let alone $80. I have a ton of paid-for royalty-free music from my college that my one of my lecturers got for me, and have been using that for the last few months for various projects. It's about 150 tracks, but of the ones, and I've never actually heard them used elsewhere in brickfilms in general, so it's not a problem. This particular video isn't a full brickfilm, bear in mind, and I have no problem scoring a full film with fresh-sounding music. It's just this one piece of music which neither I not anyone else in the project will ever use again.

I just need one track that's free and sounds a lot like Spirit in the Sky, and of the tracks I have that I've listened to so far, nothing fits. But I can't justify spending any money on this (except for small brick orders), especially since it's not an 'original' project. But thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Trailer Soundtrack Alternative Help!!!

I would see what's out there with a Bing search.  I'd also take the time to learn about the different royalty-free music providers.  Digital Juice is one I know of.  They sort their music by genre.  You may want to check them out.  You know that I've been working on a score you may like.  All I'd want for that is the mention in the credits.

Thanks, HOO. I'll try that site and run through Google for a bit (I'm afraid I have a policy of never using Bing) but if I can't find anything, I'll let ya know mini/smile

How is it going so far?

Re: Trailer Soundtrack Alternative Help!!!

Due to time constraints, I've had to drop this project for now.

Re: Trailer Soundtrack Alternative Help!!!

Well, just in case we are doing a crossover, I already have a rough plot outline. I'll share it once you are available.
