Re: BRAWL 2014 Update Thread!
Well so far I finished 2 scene's today. Hopefully I can finish another one.

First I started editing the already shot animation, then I procrastinated before going to animate, however the camera's battery needed to be recharged, so I went swimming and played games on my PC whilst the battery recharged. Then I finally got to animating but only managed to shoot a few seconds.
However looking through all your comments I feel better and that I am at least doing some progress.'
Your lucky you shot something yesterday. I had to redo everything I filmed yesterday. I finished filming it again a little while ago.
That sucks! Hope you make it; Hope everyone makes it!
Squid's right, close ups in brickfilms are nice to see. I might go with an even tighter shot though, having his legs in frame doesn't really add anything. However I don't know the context so the wide frame might be necessary.
That does look better and I do like close-ups as well.
You should probably try to keep your LEGO cleaner, though. A little paint brush is a good way to get rid of little specks of dust.
I might have to try that.
Anyway, last thing, I feel as tough my idea isn't all that great, theme interpretation wise; certainly its a random story and now I'm beginning to worry it doesn't fit the theme.
Here's the basic outline (spoiler):
Person is in Point A.
He goes through some changes and events.
He ends up back in Point A.
(Point A being Position, Place, Character, Role, anything really.)
Looking back at what I just wrote I think it is kind of a "failed" development, so to speak. Is it ok?
Mod edit: No need to quote the entire post if you're only responding to one small part.

If he develops new thoughts or something in his character develops I would say it would pass.

Not all cameras can get that close. It's funny actually, because my camera isn't all that fancy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I usually have to get my camera in really close to get these shots--if I zoom in too much it won't focus properly. The auto-focus can be really annoying as well.
The old point and shoot I used for Bank and Pirates had only auto focus, but the focus could get really close. really, really close. It could focus on dust on the lens if you wanted clear pictures of that, and I really liked that.
I was a bit annoyed when I got my SLR because it can't get very close at all without a macro lens, which really bugged me. Filming I Am The Darkness was a pain because of all of the close ups I wanted but couldn't have. My macro lens can't actually get as close as my old camera, though, however its view is just slightly zoomed. The closest it can get is Fred's super flaming close-up in LiF. But I actually kinda like it being zoomed in slightly because you have more room for your fingers to get in there.

One can interpret the theme any way they want. Even if the development failed it doesn't mean it's not about development.
My own BRAWL film incorporates the theme as development is an important thing that you should do and you should learn from your mistakes by showing that not happening. It's even basically spelled out like a children's story in the end:
Develop we can when errors we make
better's a man who's learned from mistake
The lesson here of out little vinjet:
Mem'ry is dear, so please don't forget
Faloovians spell vignette as vinjet, but it's still said vinyet.
Well, my film is officially going to suck really, really, really bad.
Im sure its better than you give it credit for. From what I've seen of it it looks really cool
Here is a frame from my film. I'm not really happy with what I have so far, but I will still persevere.
I feel like there are too many brick bricks. If you use a lot of brick bricks on a wall it ends up looking kinda like a bad repetitive video game texture. Also, something about it as a background feels a bit too textured which distracts from the subject.
I think it would have looked better if you'd had a simple line of brick bricks and then go back to more lime green.
Of course, that's all too late, but for future reference that would be my recommendation.
Another nice use for brick bricks is just sprinkle a few of them randomly over an otherwise blank wall. It ads a nice bit of detail without becoming repetitious.

Is your movie supposed to be black and white like that? If it is, then how will the judges notice the color mod?
It is going to be in black and white, but I'm going to send in color photos to the judges. The mod element is peeking out behind the flowers, but I don't expect anyone to be able to tell what it is since it's in... black and white.
I mainly did black and white because a) my lego collection is limited here on vacation so the colors look kind of ugly and b) I think it works pretty well with the whole tone of the film.
Sorry, I should have specified all of this. But in light of knowing all of this, what do you all think?

It looks nice! Though with those small walls sitting in the back it looks a little odd.
So am I the only one who doesn't have any mod-element minifigs in my film?
Nope, I don't.
Finished filming today! Gonna start post production tomorrow.
Can you guys see the mod in this picture? I need to know.
it's out of focus but visible.
Animating....
More than half way through my film at the moment. I'm hopping to finish it all before the over-morrow.
Korange is a fabulous looking set, though animation is a little slow because to get that vat glowing enough I have to make all of the other lights more dim and have a kinda long exposure (one second, which isn't that long, but still annoying).
I've also made a third brightly glowing potion shot for which I used a 30 second exposure for maximum brightness of that glowing potion.
It's like glowing potion mania in this film.
I'm not sure if I'll have time for film #2, though. I still really want it.
Scene one is all but complete, 2 left to shoot, and I still haven't built the set for scene 2, or the fireplace for scene 3 and a short part of scene 1.
