Topic: Need some CGI skillz

I'll cut straight to the point. I'm making Super Duck 2 at the moment, and one of the scenes consists of a car/plane chase. You all saw what happened when I did my own CGI in the first Super Duck, and you will all agree with me to not let that happen again. So I need someone who would be willing to make me a small city using some 3D modeling program. It doesn't have to have any great detail, just buildings and a street. I can't pay any money, but I would definitely put your name in lights in the credits, I could also have a link to your channel in the description. As a final note I will tell you that if I don't get someone to help, I will have to do it myself again. And nobody wants that mini/eek .

If all you need is a flyover a small city, I might be able to throw something together.

But why don't you make it in real bricks? It's possible you know.

Or perhaps, you could spend time on your cgi, and figure out how to do it. But really, you're not going to get better if you don't keep practicing and trying. imo

I don't think I have enough. They are doing more than just flying over it. They are hopefully going to be weaving in and out of buildings and stuff. I might be able to do the street chase out of real bricks, but not the air chase.

Microscale?

Normally, I write  a script based on what I know I can create visually. Learn the technology first, and base your scripts around what you want to do that you know you can do.

I always try to put a few things in scripts that I don't know how to do, so I can push myself to get better. But you need to have the time, and possibly money to spend on whatever extra equipment you will need to pull those things off.

As for the city, even if the city is CGI the CGI artist will probably have to resort to micro-scale just because rendering a cities worth of bricks requires an insane amount of possessing power. If I were you I would try building 10 or so simple micro-scale towers and then animate them flying away from the camera as separate elements, then taking all of the shots and composting them together (and I would use masking rather then green screen because it doesn't look like you are getting a very good key  (or maybe you can get a proper back-light to separate the object from the background)

What you saw was with my old editing software, VideoPad. Now I have Sony Vegas, it looks a lot better.

I might give this microscale thing a try, but I doubt that I will get the effect I want. I don't see how I would be able to move the camera in a way that would look realistic. It looks like I might have to torture everyone's eyes with my own CGI again, although I might put a little more time and effort into the modeling this time.

Jampot is right. Mircoscale would work much better. In fact, The LEGO Movie used microscale frequently (for example, the scene when Metalbeard jumped out of Octan Tower, and when Cloud Cookoo land fell). Like SlothPaladin said, rendering all of the LEGO buildings would be harsh on computers, expecially if you want it photorealistic. And if it's not photorealistic, what's the point of rendering it? It just takes away from the film with poor CGI. Microscale is the way to go.

It's not about the software for the most part. The largest part is to have a really good, clean set and screen.

No, like, VideoPad was literally the main problem. I have the free version and so I get really bad quality. The same scene keyed with Vegas looks a lot better.
