Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I think I would enjoy Jack and Jill for all the wrong reasons.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The only good thing about Jack and Jill was the Half in the Bag evisceration.

A Goofy Movie

I remembered this from when I was younger, I rented it just to see if it held up, but I didn't expect it to actually be good. Holy wow, that's a good movie.

Like, a really good movie.

Oh my goodness. This movie. It needs more love. Go watch it.

Elf

I guess Paul Reubens wasn't available?

Pretty funny, not HILAAARIOUS as my friends somehow think it to be, but it was a pretty nice film.

Oliver and Company

Ugh. I rented this also  because I remembered it from when I was younger. I don't love this movie. It's so annoying and sappy and terrible. Ughhhhh

But Billy Joel had some nice songs, though. So there's that.

I agree. I've seen the movie 10 times and I still didn't like it. mini/rolleyes

I loved that film.

Independence Day (ID4)

I liked it a little bit, but the special effects were off by a mile. Some looked too animated. Plus, if I'd watched this movie in 3D, my glasses woulda thrown up on the floor. It wasn't terrible, and it wasn't awesome; it was just, kinda in the middle. Alien films are a bit cliche. Also, it looked too unreal. Once I saw the scene with the alien, I started to laugh my head off. The alien looked ridiculous! It was like Jim Henson or something! Plus, it was so looooonng! It just got boring in a few parts, that's all. The special effects were just terrible, that's all. Everything else was okay, I guess.

I give your review a 4/10.

Kung Fu Panda 2

I like this one. Jack Black did it again. It was actually entertaining, the story seemed good, action was great.
This movie was just enjoyable. mini/smile

Thursday
A fun, smart little crime film, I enjoyed it a lot. One of those Tarantino-inspired ones from the '90s. The comedy especially worked well. Plus Thomas Jane and Aaron Eckhart had pretty good chemistry.
Oh, and Paulina Porizkova was... good...

Carrie
Poor Carrie. Can't remember the last character I've seen that garnered that much sympathy from the audience, you really felt for Carrie, which made the ending that much more brutal. I knew the story going in, so the lead-up to the pig's blood] was excruciating, especially when you saw her finally happy. Sissy Spacek was really good in this.
The only flaw I really found was that most of the supporting characters felt a little clichéd and one-dimensional. The actors/actresses did a good job with what they had, though.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

NINJA ASSASSIN

Very enjoyable action sequences with hardly developed characters. Usually I connect with the characters very easily (easier than most people) but this time I didn't give a crap what was going to happen to the protagonists, so I gotta say that the script itself must've been written badly, the storyline felt like a filler between the action sequences. It was cool to see a ninja movie though mini/bigsmile

Repulsion (1965)

Roman Polanski is fantastic. This is probably one of his finest films.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Third Man

This is one of those movies I need to watch again. Its one of those times when upon first observation, it seems the plot is fairly simplistic - probably because I've missed a load of stuff. It didn't help that I was watching this on TV, meaning that I had to endure ad breaks in clashing wide-screen colour. This is a movie that clearly wasn't intended to be sliced into around 6 parts...

Oh, and they keep repeating the same music OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. Once Upon A Time In The West lost my interest somewhat when they kept repeating that same slow zany banjo theme in literally every other scene. Its fine in The Good The Bad and The Ugly where the music is really good, in both this and OUATITW the repeated music just isnt worth repeating, outstaying its welcome very quickly.

Apparently I was watching it in HD (broadcast on Channel 4 HD), but I didn't really notice it. At times I noticed the texture on a persons face, or the material of someone's coat, but for the most part it looked like I was watching an up-scaled DVD. Apparently the Criterion Collection Blu-Ray is much better than Studio Canal's transfer - but the UK doesn't get Criterion (WHY NOT!?!).

I find it hilarious that Studio Canal added their modern logo at the beginning, yet for some reason they kept in the old 'This movie has been rated 'A' card that doesn't add anything. I guess its just a fun little feature, to remind us of when there were only three ratings in the UK - and rarely were any of them actually enforced.

I remember that was one of the things I enjoyed most about the film. Too bad that when I watched it I was tired and couldn't follow the plot. It was long time ago.

Aguirre, Wrath of God
It deserves all the attention it gets. I'm looking for more Herzog/Kinsky movies now. The soundtrack was really... captivating too.
Btw, it was funny to hear that after one or two phrases spoken in german they added a random "la puta".

The zither music is brilliant and matches the characters and actions fantastically in my opinion.

I also find it funny that this film, Lawrence of Arabia and 2001: A Space Odyssey(sometimes considered British) are consistently voted as the best British films when none of them are set in Britain.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I'm clearly just not a fan of zither....
