Are there any good tutorials for adding lighting effects in post?
I would assume I would/could do it in After Effects, but if there's any other programs out there that do better jobs, then let me know.
Also, would I be best doing it on a video file, or doing it while I've still got the image sequence?
What sort of lighting are you doing?
Also, its always best to work on the image sequence, simply because its the raw format and likely to be higher quality. Make sure to interpret the image sequence in the correct FPS when importing to AE.
Spotlights and ambient lights are all I can think of at the moment.
Can I see a frame of what you want to light?
You might try using AE's 3d lights (if you have AE). Turn your footage into a 3d layer in your composition. Then, go to Layer>New>Light and you can make the light any shade, intensity, etc. Once created, you can move it around in 3d space (it helps having split views, like "front" and "custom view 1"). The only problem with this method is that the lights tend to overcome the original lighting if they are too intense. To solve this, you can use whiter lights. So, I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but it is, nonetheless, a cool effect.
