Topic: "Silantro" - Pre-Production Update Page

With the indefinite postponement of Joe Brickmond: Episode #17 due to lack of time on the part of Amanda Allbee and several cast members, I am taking this opportunity to revive a six-year-old project that previously never progressed beyond the planning stage.
I am currently developing a fantasy mini-series titled Silantro.

PLOT OUTLINE
The basic plot revolves around a dragon named Silantro who must return the daugher of the King of England who was accidentally left behind in battle 17 years prior.

CURRENT CAST OF CHARACTERS

Silantro
Silantro is one of an endangered species of dragon. He is a gentle dragon, but the King and the kingdom have the belief that all dragons are evil, so in battle, he only attacks to defend himself. He constantly feels lonely, which is one of the reasons why he raises the daughter of the King.

Jupiter
Jupiter is the daughter of the King and Queen of England. During one of many battles between Silantro and the King's troops, Jupiter was born and accidentally left behind upon retreat. Because of the perceived carelessness on the King's part, Silantro takes matters into his own hands by raising her. He teaches her everything about the land and she believes him to be her father.

Unnamed rookie knight
This knight is one that is newly appointed by the King. He has many brilliant ideas, but because he is new, the King does not take him as seriously as he should. After being sent to battle with other troops, he sneaks off in an attempt to rescue Jupiter himself. He immediately falls in love with her upon finding her and is willing to do anything to keep her and Silantro safe.

Unnamed King of England
The King was once a mighty and powerful ruler, but falls into depression after losing his daughter and even moreso after his wife, the Queen, passes away. He has constant hope that his daughter is still alive and that he will one day be reunited with her. He suspects Silantro to have kidnapped her and always send troops to slay the dragon.

Unnamed right-hand man
The King's right-hand man is the villain of the series. Although he is always sucking up to the King, he frequently defies the King's orders. He hopes to one day destroy Silantro so that he may show the king that he can be a powerful ruler like [the King] once was.

NOTES
There are many things about this series that I will be doing differently from what I have done before, including the Joe Brickmond series.

Plot and tone of the series
Story-wise, I can best describe it as "Lord of the Rings meets The Jungle Book meets Princess Mononoke". I intend for the series to have a semi-serious tone, with some moments of comedy relief.
I intend for each episode to be 5-10 minutes long until the entire story has been told.

Voice cast
I will be hiring different voice actors for the characters (including the title character) in order for all of the characters to be distinct from each other. Once I have at least the first episode written, I will be holding auditions both on this forum and YouTube.

Music
I plan on having an original score in this series, including opening and closing themes.
The type of music I hope to have in the show is orchestral rock, with hard rock songs being featured occasionally.

This is all I have for now, but I will give more info on the series as I continue to develop it.

Is it like a musical type kind of series, like will the characters sing?

No mini/lol
When I said that I would feature rock songs, I meant as background music for certain scenes. However, I hope for the score to largely be original orchestral rock/power metal.

It'll make more sense once I get it going.

So would I. I still need to write at least the second episode, come up with names for the characters and design them before I can go forward with anything else (auditions, storyboards, etc.)

Re: "Silantro" - Pre-Production Update Page

Out of curiosity, is Silantro's name have any relationship to the herb cilantro (it's a silly question, I know)?

It's a remote possibility mini/lol

Story and script
Since my last post, I have written the final screenplay for the first episode and the first draft of the remainder of the series. So far, it looks like there will be a total of seven episodes.

Cast of characters
I have all of the primary and secondary characters named and designed. I will also be posting slightly revised descriptions of each of them.

Silantro
Many see this endangered species of dragon as a threat to the kingdom of England, but Silantro is gentle by nature and wants more than anything to be at peace with them. He will attack, but only to defend himself and anybody else in harm's way. Because of his constant loneliness, he takes it upon himself to raise the King and Queen's daughter, who was inadvertently left behind upon birth. He knows that the right thing to do is to take her back to her true home, but ignores the problem for many years.

Jupiter, the Daughter of the King
Being born during battle, Jupiter was accidentally left behind. She believes Silantro to be her father. By the age of 17, she has come to be very independent and does a large part of the work around home, doing most of the hunting, fishing, cooking and anything that Silantro is incapable of doing himself. She can't imagine living with anybody but Silantro, which makes things all the more difficult when Silantro finally decides to take her home.

Leon, the King of England
Once a great and powerful ruler, King Leon falls into depression after his daughter is found lost and even moreso after his wife the Queen passes away. He believes Silantro to have kidnapped Jupiter and dedicates his life to getting his daughter back and having revenge on the dragon. Despite many unsuccessful battles, Leon always has hope that he will one day be reunited with his daughter.

Nathaniel, a Rookie Knight
Nathaniel is a newly-appointed and quick-learning knight. He starts out as the King's gofer, but is made part of the cavalry when the King is searching for more knights. Although he has many ideas, the King does not take him as seriously as he should and [Nathaniel] ends up going through with his ideas with or without the King's permission. He instantly falls in love with Jupiter when he meets her for the first time.

Haman, the King's Second-In-Command
The King's right-hand man is the villain of the series. Although a sycophant to the King's face, Haman believes that King Leon makes all the wrong choices when it comes to battle and order. He believes he can be a better ruler than the King and is always striving to prove it.

The Queen of England
Due to her small role in the series, the Queen is never referred to by name. One day, she went along with the King to watch one of their many battles with Silantro. Because she was pregnant at the time, she gave birth to Jupiter during an evening break. After retreating from a surprise battle with the dragon, the Queen left Jupiter behind by mistake, only realizing it after they made it back to the kingdom. She was distraught by this error and supported her husband's desire for revenge on Silantro. She later passed away.

The Knights
Although many have come and gone, the King always has a large army of knights at his disposal. They see their constant searching for the King's daughter as futile and only do it to follow his orders.

Other designs and special effects.
For set designs, I will be combining miniatures with large-scale sets. Most of the combinations will be done via chroma-key.

Silantro was one of the hardest characters for me to design and will be even more difficult to animate convincingly, so I will be doing a lot of test videos before I go forward with the filming of the series.

I will also have to buy more LEGO pieces, including several gray baseplates and gray pieces.

Audio
I will be holding auditions for the characters within the next week as well as drawing/filming storyboard animatics for the voice actors who get chosen.

Cool!

Re: "Silantro" - Pre-Production Update Page

I'd love to do some voice acting if you'd need it.

I'd love to have you try out. I'll be posting audition videos and an audition thread on this forum soon, so keep an eye out for that mini/wink

I know. I thought since that JB episode isn't going to be finished anytime in the near future, I would go ahead and use her (albiet slightly modified) for Jupiter, because, despite a few attempts at making a different design, it was the only design for her that clicked with me.

Re: "Silantro" - Pre-Production Update Page

Update (1/23/14)

I have the final drafts for the second and third episodes written and I have begun to purchase the pieces required for the series (mainly gray baseplates and more gray pieces).

Also, I am currently holding auditions for the characters. For more info, either go to this thread:

Re: "Silantro" - Pre-Production Update Page

interesting...

A Life? Cool! Where can I download one of those from?

Re: "Silantro" - Pre-Production Update Page

Update (1/30/14)

I have the screenplays for all the episodes (which ended up being five instead of six) written and I have begun to draw out the storyboards for the first episode.

I have several miniatures built for the series, but I will need to buy some more LEGO pieces before I can go any further in that area.

Also, auditions are still going on, so be sure to check out the thread in the "Audio" section.
