Topic: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

Perhaps one of the best shows on network television.  A great mix of action, drama, humor, and character story in almost every episode.

For those who don't know, it's about an eccentric software billionaire and a former CIA officer working together to prevent violent crimes, especially premeditated murder.  They get support from two NYPD detectives, a German shepherd, and a former CIA assassin.

Here's the billionaire's voice-over at the beginning of every episode.

You are being watched. The government has a secret system: a machine that spies on you every hour of every day. I designed the machine to detect acts of terror, but it sees everything. Violent crimes involving ordinary people. The government considers these people "irrelevant." We don't. Hunted by the authorities, we work in secret. You'll never find us, but victim or perpetrator, if your number's up... we'll find you.

I'm sure you hear it a lot from Walking Dead fans, Breaking Bad fans, Game of Thrones Fan, etc. about their favorites shows, so if you're not watching, let this be another show for you to DVR or binge-watch later on Netflix.

For the rest of us: Discuss.

This is my favourite show. The new episode airs today.  This episode, Resse is the POI!

Re: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

I've been considering watching the show, mainly because of Michael Emerson. Sounds promising; I'll give it a watch. mini/wink

Re: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

When this show first aired, my mother and sister watched it without me and the pilot was deleted.  Since then, I've never been able to start watching the show because it's not on Netflix and every single time I check for re-runs on TV there are none at all.

The worst of it is how my mother and sister keep talking about how great the show is but I can't watch it. mini/blankexpression

Re: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

You could search for the pilot on YouTube, Squid? That's what me and my brothers do to watch episodes of our favourite shows--ones that don't air on television anymore.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Dude, they has been advertising that a main character would kick the bucket soon, but I still agree with you. It was sad when

Re: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

I haven't really heard of this show before, but now I'm interested in seeing it.  The premise sounds quite similar in style to Alias (which I've been watching recently and enjoyed)--which probably isn't all that surprising, seeing as both shows were made by Bad Robot.  And if it's written by Jonathan Nolan... count me in.  So yeah, is there any way I can watch the pilot in a free and preferably non-illegal manner? mini/wink

Re: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

If it's not on Netflix, I guess check your local library.  I've been relying on mine to watch past shows.

Re: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

I didn't notice there was discussion for PoI! This is such a great show. The latest episode ending came as a shock to me when

Spoiler (click to read)

Joss Carter was killed by Patrick Simmons. She was really one of the last characters I thought would be killed. Though, I knew somebody was going to die from the commercials.

I'm glad that they recently added PoI to OnDemand and Apple TV, for it used to be unavailable before this season. Anyways, I can't wait for the new episode this Tuesday!

Thoughts on November 26, 2013's episode.

Johnny Cash montage: Perfect.
It was the right choice to have Fusco bring in Simmons.
I'm on the fence on Root's significance

I loved that episode.

I wasn't expecting Fusco to be the one to bring Simmons down. I wasn't all that shocked when Elias's henchman killed Simmons, though, for I just had a hunch that he wasn't just going to survive.

Simmons was the person of interest. He was going to die for sure. I thought it would be someone on the team to do it, not Elias. Wait, now that Carter is dead, what is Elias going to do with his time? Return of a major villain?

Re: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

Any thoughts about the Person of Interest episode, "Lethe", that premiered last night?

Episode Description (No Spoilers, from IMDB.com)
"Flashbacks to Finch's adolescence provide insight into his creation of The Machine. Also, the team receives the number of an already dying man, and Reese leaves the POI team behind in the aftermath of the war with the crime organization, HR."

Wasn't paying attention to any casting announcements so I wasn't expecting the head of Control to be in this episode.

I actually tried to jot down all the intelligence/data mining project names that were mentioned to figure out which one was real.  Nice nod to PRISM.

Re: Person of Interest (TV) Discussion

I cunningly decided to give a Blu-Ray set of PoI to a family member for Christmas, so I have now managed to watch the first season with my family.  It's my new favourite TV show, I really like it.  All the characters are strong, the writing is great, and there's a great balance between action, humour, and a gradual revealing of the characters' backstory.  My mother and sister got hooked too.

Personally I think the funniest part thus far is

when Finch got drugged in "Identity Crisis", causing him to behave in a rather out-of character manner ("Don't you want to have a chat?" "But you're a very private person..." "Awww, come on!").

Unfortunately, the second season is first available in March/April here in the UK, and getting it shipped from the US is ridiculously expensive, so I'm going to have to wait quite a while before I can continue watching. mini/sad

Welcome to the fold, FlyingMinifig.

Regarding January 7's episode (Aletheia)

Spoiler (click to read)

That is some f-ed up Guantanamo s**t they did to Root, even though I'm on the fence on what side she's on, although now, it's clear she's on the Machine's side.

And Decima is still in play.  All thanks to Finch's goal to set the Machine free.

Sort of lost track on what happened to Vigilance.  Were they all wiped out?

The Finale

Spoiler (click to read)

I had no idea where this show was headed.  A battle of the Gods/AIs?  Team Machine stopping Samaritan from coming online?  Root and her hacker friends planting a virus to kill Samaritan or assimilate it with the Machine?

It was defeat after defeat since Decima acquired Samaritan.

For it to come down to this, with the eerie white screen Samaritan going faux-3D camera and dropping crosshairs on anyone who sneezes terrorism.  The bad guys won.  The good guys scattered to the winds.  They now survive so long as no one switches out those servers that hard coded the surviving 7's identification, no one looks at Samaritan's surveillance feed and none of Team Machine ever crossing paths with Greer and the rest of Decima.

I love the Greek mythology parallel, and that what Team Machine has is hope.
