Topic: KicVidz - LEGO video Censoring!?

I wasn't sure what topic to post this under, however, as this doesn't specifically have to do with production, or film in general, I posted it here.

There's this (android only?) app called KicVidz. Here's a link to a video talking about it (Made by The Brick Show, not me): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b88tqBvdryo

As suggested by Jason from The Brick Show, this app can sort through brickfilms on youtube as well. I'm just wondering what other brickfilmers think about this. (Please don't start another violence is wrong/right flame war. This is only for the app, and the effect it may have on the brickfilming community)

Here are some questions I currently have:

#1 - What if the app misses certain videos that are aimed for a child audience? If I made a film that was "clean," I'd want to make sure that others will see it

#2 - I haven't checked into this personally, but: What constitutes as "clean." As previously stated, The Brick Show video said that videos that were approved were shown. What if your video, lets even say a popular one, (just for the sake of argument) isn't approved for months, years, of even is never approved?

#3 - (And probably most important) Will this even effect/what will this do to the brickfilming community? I mean, people like ForrestFire101 won't really be hit, as their videos are already for a more mature audience. But, what if kids' films, made for their friends, aren't seen. This app, if used by more and more people, could sway the likes and views of brickfilms.

I'd like to see what others think, as, though this could just be one of those: hey, look at that cool app, (But then, never install it) kind of things, I think it's something to think about, as, with the way youtube changes every few months, if something like this was implemented, this could become a serious problem for some, and a "free ride to the top" for others...

I think this project will be too small to have any sort of sway with how brickfilms are viewed. It's a really good idea and great for parents, but I don't think anyone who makes "mature audience" films needs to be concerned about it at all.

If the app rehosts videos from YouTube and cheats people out of views, that's bad. But again, it's too small to really have an effect.

That's what I was thinking, Hazzat. It's a great idea, but probably too small to sway brickfilms in anyway.

It just reminded me of Quietube (Something teachers love to use when showing students youtube videos, as to not advertize... (Another issue I thought KicVidz implied doing: and I didn't want to start a comment war on that, either. For the record, I am against the use of Quiet tube.) If a "well used" site did this, it could sway brickfilmers' views - Specifically a site like BricksinMotion.

I'm not saying BiM would do any sort of thing: It already has a great rating system, and the rules say that the forums should be kept to a PG-13 level, as 13 is the suggested minimum sign-up age. However, it'll be interesting to see if something like this could sway the brickfilming community: specifically those just starting. (Who might "grow up" with this kind of censorship)

My schoolteachers use this other thing called TeacherTube. It's basically the same thing. Plus, YouTube is blocked on my school computers.

I think the whole thing is an interesting idea. But, I'm curious as to what videos the system will censor, and which ones it won't...

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: KicVidz - LEGO video Censoring!?

Yeah, Mickey, TeacherTube is another one.

Interesting Idea: yes. I'm excited to see what this does (downloaded it today, so, maybe I can find out more for myself soon enough) As to the censoring, I think that, with the huge amount of videos allowed, it may just allow all videos that haven't been flagged. And then the creator probably blocks certain channels, such as ForrestFire101's, and even specific videos to make sure all is appropriate. This system is, as most of us can surmise, similar to Youtube's own system of blocking pornography. However, once in a while, nudity will surface. (It's practically impossible to block ALL that's uploaded, as, I'd assume over the world there's probably some rate like 8 videos a second being uploaded that will eventually be deleted!)

If this is true, it won't all be "safe," but will feature more brickfilms without censorship. However, if this isn't true, and the app only allows videos that have been watched by the app's creator, it will be 100% "safe," but may leave out many good videos... Again, that's the reason for concern.
