Topic: It's a Great Time to Brickfilm (and Here's Why)

Hey everyone, I recently wrote an article on The Set Bump called "It's a Great Time to Brickfilm (and Here's Why)", partially as a response to some discussions that have been had here on BiM regarding the state of brickfilming. I always thought that the "it's going down hill" argument wasn't true. I figured it was appropriate to share this article here, even though I did write it, and I thought that some of you would be interested. You can read it here:

Re: It's a Great Time to Brickfilm (and Here's Why)

I agree.  for me it is alot easier and financially possible  for me to make a brickfilm  with a plot containing out of this world ideas using LEGO. If I wanted to create a live-action  film, it would cost a boat load of money I don't have.

The greatest brickfilms haven't been made yet!!!!

I agree, there are a lot of useless junk videos that clutter up the internet. But if you can make a good quality movie that truly deserves respect, then sooner or latter you will get that respect and admiration from those who can sift your movie out of the clutter.

I also had no idea that it took 11,000 to make "The Magic Portal", wow that is a lot, especially back then.

Re: It's a Great Time to Brickfilm (and Here's Why)

One must consider the technology back then.  After completing my fisrt episode of Holding Our Own, I sent an email to the voice talent about how amazing it is that we can do this today, and imagine how difficult it would have been in the 1980s to get people who don't know each other from all around to put this together.

Great article. Perfectly summarised my view on the current generation of Brickfilming.

Perfect article. Perfect!

Very interesting and pretty well written. Wasn't there a brickfilm made before the Magic Portal though, that isn't on Youtube (Idk if I'm right, but I believe I read about it somewhere).

There is a Lego animation on YouTube that was made well over 35 years ago. I think it was the trip to the moon...

Whoops, forgot about this post. Thanks for all for your kind words, and I'm glad you all agree. I believe there was an earlier brickfilm made, but it is not available online. I used the Lindsay Fleay reference primarily because he is so well known, and there is quite a bit of back story and information on him and his project.
