Topic: 3D Printing Lego Bricks??

If anyone knows about the 3D printers, wouldn't giving yourself an unlimited supply of Lego bricks be one of the first things you'd think of?!

Re: 3D Printing Lego Bricks??

I don't think it would be legal to print actual LEGO bricks, but it could make making customs easier.

Or build a lego-mountable rig to hold our cameras.  It would solve so much.

Re: 3D Printing Lego Bricks??

I just love 3d printers I tell ya what. I don't really feel like printing your own lego bricks is a good idea, as with the cost of the technology it would probably be more expensive than PaB (unless of course I had to make lego bricks of glass or metal, or some color lego does not make, because then it would be worth it.)
However if I want to make a unique custom brick (plate with studs on both sides?) then I would go for it. That is, if I didn't hate using 3d design programs so much.

Re: 3D Printing Lego Bricks??

About the costs: I saw a guy on TV who laser-printed a gun in 9 hours for $100 in printing materials.  And many Lego pieces are rare and would be cheaper to print.

If you were to copy a Lego design of a brick, or molded it, that is illegal. If you mean 3D print custom weapons, helmets, I know people who do it.

Re: 3D Printing Lego Bricks??

In Europe, it's legal to counterfeit Lego, as long as you don't have the LEGO logo on your bricks.  American companies are taking advantage of the ruling (Hasbro's KRE-O is one)  Sadly, Lego's intelectual property has been slipping from their ownership.

Re: 3D Printing Lego Bricks??

Did Lego not lose the brick liscene in 2010? I think they did because many off brands have bricks the exact same dimension and shape of Lego.

Re: 3D Printing Lego Bricks??

Losing the legal battle to those accursed MegaBloks led the the rise of all kinds of counterfits, Kre-O specifically capitalizing on the ruling.

There are worse brands though...But the licence couldn't last forever, maybe for the minifig and its elements, but not for the brick.
