Topic: Johnny Thunder Returns... Steampunk?

On LEGO CUUSOO, a suggestion has been made: to REBOOT Johnny Thunder with a little Pharaoh's quest and Steampunk flair! (For those who don't know, steampunk can be described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk)

More about this project at the links. . .

Here: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/31714
and by searching through the photo-stream here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/legojunkie … otostream/

Anyway, what are your thoughts fellow brickfilmers?

I, for one being a Johnny Thunder/Steampunk fan, LOVE this idea! (Especially, since I am making a steampunk influenced Johnny Thunder movie right now)

P.S. I won't directly link the photos, as, I have nothing to do with this project (apart from backing it on CUUSOO), and I respect the owners' rights.

Re: Johnny Thunder Returns... Steampunk?

My thoughts are post this in the Cuusoo thread mini/cat

I like the idea okay, but it doesn't really jump out at me. It seems a rehashing of just some stuff that has already been done before. I feel like they need something new and unique in order to create a theme that will be as successful as the original Johnney Thunder.

Re: Johnny Thunder Returns... Steampunk?

I saw that there was a CUUSOO thread, but, I thought that posting this topic alone wouldn't spam out the CUUSOO thread, as rebooting a classic Lego theme is a highly debated topic, deserving it's own thread.

Just look at the (now defunct) Lego Universe; Some loved the Updated Johnny Thunder, while others (such as myself) did not! And, since no new Pharaoh's Quest sets have been released since 2011, I can assume that it, too, will soon be discontinued.

Also, once a LEGO store employee mentioned that LEGO tries to keep series with similar parts in production at all times. (For example: Johnny Thunder, then Indiana Jones, then Prince of Persia, then Pharaoh's Quest...) So, really, I'm wondering what is next in the "adventurers" section?

Could this "Adventures of Steamrod" be it? The people who made it also made a Lego Portal 2 suggestion, which has already hit 10,000, and is currently being "reviewed." So, it's not totally "out of the ballpark" that this could happen within the next few years.

I really don't think this will happen.  When it comes to CUUSOO, Lego seems to be more into single set deals just to sell them for novelty sake.  I don't think they are looking for new lines.  I would love to see the return of the adventurers though.

Re: Johnny Thunder Returns... Steampunk?

I suppose my beef with today's sets that are intended for children is the fact that they are minifigure driven, and each minifigure has a name and personality. Maybe this is why I prefer things like Blacktron, the characters aren't generic, but they have just enough personality to still let the kids who buy the sets come up with most of the mythology themselves.

Re: Johnny Thunder Returns... Steampunk?

I agree topitmunkeydog, I love characters that aren't TOO generic, but still have some back-story; those perfect for customization! However, I still love Johnny Thunder (and alike themes).
