Topic: What can I use for snow?

I have used baking soda, and it is really hard for me to move the minifigures freely. I was wondering what else would be good for snow, ( in the food category.) Or should I just save up the money and buy a white base plate?

Like in this picture, I used baking soda.

Re: What can I use for snow?

Have any white modeling clay? This would be great for making footprints in the snow too.

Re: What can I use for snow?

I have some, but wouldn't it look really fake?

Re: What can I use for snow?

The baking soda looks quite realistic, however a white baseplate would be much easier to animate on. Though it would look really cool if you sprinkled a little baking soda on the baseplate to make it look even snowier.

Re: What can I use for snow?

Ill see how much a white baseplate costs

Re: What can I use for snow?

Looking around I'd suggest getting a couple 16x32 white baseplates, it seems to be the cheapest option (that is, if you are wanting to order from the US).

Re: What can I use for snow?

Heck for like $3 bucks, thanks for the link. I just need to know how to use bricklink.

Re: What can I use for snow?

I found this topic where someone asked the same question and I linked them to three other topics that had also asked the same question if that makes any sense.
Uhh.
Here is the topic. You will find a myriad of answers there or in the topics linked in there.

Thanks.

Re: What can I use for snow?

If you want realistic snow, we would recommend sugar, not baking powder, because real snow is reflective and crystal-like (like sugar).  We used sugar on top of a white baseplate in this film.  And if you have trouble keeping the characters upright, I would recommend using something like white stick-tack (which we ended up using quite a bit in the film above).

Thank you for the advice, I will take all I can.

Snow.

Just animate fast.

I'm not sure if that was a joke or not, but it actually has been done before!

Re: What can I use for snow?

That's funny

Re: What can I use for snow?

When we did our Christmas film, we used salt and I think it looked really realistic.

Re: What can I use for snow?

Sugar or soda or baseplates but not real snow.

Re: What can I use for snow?

It's simple. Use real snow, open your windows so your room is cold enough and the snow won't melt, that way you'll have plenty of time to animate mini/wink

Re: What can I use for snow?

My room has no windows. I actually have cement for walls ( my room is unfinished. ) I think I will just buy some 16x32 white base plates, use baking soda or sugar for the snow.  Thanks for the advice.

Re: What can I use for snow?

Not that I have any experience in these matters but personally I would think salt would work better than sugar or baking soda. Baking soda is too powdery and not crystalized enough and sugar is messy/sticky/ants. The most snow-like type of salt is "fleur de sel" but unfortunately it is ridiculously expensive unless you live in France. But the manner in which it clumps is like perfect.
