Topic: Canon Powershot?

Okay, so my Dad bought a new Canon Powershot and I messed around with it, taking pictures of my LEGO, and I really think I should buy one for myself.

Anyone use a Canon Powershot? And if so, which model, because I want it to be able to be controlled by an animation software (in this case, MonkeyJam) and also I'm willing to pay about $200-300 if I have to.

Re: Canon Powershot?

I like Powershots. I have used a Canon Powershot A620 for all my brickfilms since 2007. I would recommend making sure yours is compatible with the stop motion software you want to use. A620 for instance doesn't work with MonkeyJam. I can't find a list of what cameras are known to work with MonkeyJam, but I think the A720 and some others have better all around support for stop motion than the A620. I'm not sure about the recent ones, but I do like the generally compact build of the A series.

Re: Canon Powershot?

Hey guys,

I have a follow up question regarding this topic. What about the focus? From what I see from the specs of most powershot cameras, they don't have manual focus, just manual white balance...

If I did get a Canon Powershot (for example, the A620) I'd be willing to go to another animation software, so that would be no issue.

Re: Canon Powershot?

I would advise against the A620. It's not, as far as I know, compatible with any stop motion software. I use it to take stills because it works with Canon's (old, difficult to find) remote capture software which lets me take stills straight to the hard drive and control the camera pretty well without touching it. I think some of the later A series cameras have better stop motion software compatibility. I have simply gotten used to not using stop motion software, I just take stills and sequence them later.
