I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC38E, but this probably appies to at least 40% of Sony's camcorders. I am having problems with capturing in widescreen or anything other than 720x576 or some resolution similar. I have contacted Sony numerous times to find no real solution. If anyone posses a Sony Handycam or knows some information, please reply! I use Helium frog!
I don't have time to look it up right now but what year is the camera from? Is it supposed to shoot more than the resolution you posted? If it is, try and go into the settings of the camera and check for either "quality" or "resolution".
Yeah, on the camera it's widescreen, but whenever I go on the computer, the capture resolution changes to 720x576.

Well, depending on how old your camera is, your camera might not be capable of shooting in 16:9. From the looks of it, it seems your camera can only shoot 720x576, which is the 4:3 aspect ratio.
He says it apparently can shoot in 16:9 formats, so we just need to wait for an answer of my questions above.
What software are you using to animate? I know that AnimatorHD has a max. render output of 720 X 576.
I'm using Helium frog.
@Jackpody yeah, on the actualy camera I got it to shoot in 16:9, but when capturing on a computer, it's 720x576

720x576. I tired changing it but it wouldn't budge.
I'm sorry but I'm not sure if you're getting it. If your native screen resolution is 720x576, then is the screen from 1998 or older? I'm not trying to be an arse but I thought that no one used old CRT's anymore.
Some programs cannot shoot higher than what your native screen resolution is (see MonkeyJam, Hel.Frog). So if your screen resolution actually IS 720x576, then you might not be able to shoot higher than that because the program thinks it's 'nice' limiting you to 720x576, so the framecapture box doesn't get bigger than your nat. res.
Ohhhhhhhhhh, for the computer it's 720x576, but on the camera it can go on 16:9 and 4:3
MonkeyJam can film in a higher-res than your screen.
All you need to do is scroll up, down, and sideways to see the entire frame in the viewing window.
Ah, I'm probably using some strange old version then. Anyhow, is your screen resolution actually 720x576? I'm having a real hard time believing in that, no offense. Simply because I have not heard of anyone using a screen with that tiny resolution since year 2003.
Just to clarify, go onto your desktop, right click, choose "screen resolution" and tell me what "resolution" says.
Not my COMPUTER screen, it's 1366x768. We're talking about how it captures.
I was asking about your native screen resolution the entire time, on your computer. Should read a bit better. 
Is there a way to set your resolution in Helium Frog? I know there is in Monkeyjam, and you can apparently up it as much as you want (well until you hit the limiter for your camera).
I rang sony, they said there is no way that it can be changed. So I'm going to try out MonkeyJam.
Wait, isn't Monkeyjam just for webcams?
I downloaded MokeyJam, but when I go to change the size, It won't do actual resolutions! I think the Camera is STUCK on 720x576!
