Topic: Harry Potter: The Musical (Update Thread)

Yep, Thats right! I'm making a musical. Here I will update everyone (who cares) how far or how much progress I've made. Once I finish the script I will post a bunch of pictures. Anyways, the main story of this is simply going to be the story of Harry's Life And every once in a while they break into song.
I will be writing the songs mostly myself. I say mostly because the songs will be to the tunes of real songs. It'll be kindof  like a song parody. Eventually I will be having a casting call for actors and singers. If you would like to audition when the time comes you would not have to sing good because it is pretty much a joke. (But if you do sing good don't hold back mini/lol )

Any questions? Please ask, thank you!

Hasn't this already been done as a live performance by some college students? My friend introduced me to it...

Yes. That was just my inspiration for this film. I will admit that they are both harry potter that has a musical but it will be a different type story and all.

Re: Harry Potter: The Musical (Update Thread)

Just Finished the first song. I have decided that all the songs will be to the tune of a real song. The one I just wrote was to the tune of "We are Young".

Really? If you are aiming to make a theatre-type "musical" like Grease or The Sound of Music, (both of which are my favorites), then maybe you should choose a song that might be heard on the stage, instead of the radio. mini/tongue

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Harry Potter: The Musical (Update Thread)

Well it's supposed to have a comical approach. Its not really supposed to be like your going to see it on stage. It's simply just a film that has singing every once in a while.

And AC/DC the musical, We Will Rock (queen musical), and ABBA the musical, has songs that aren't supposed to be heard on the radio? Also, wicked (my favourite) has some songs that could almost be played on the radio mini/tongue It can be done.

Posted in your audio thread, but just letting you know, I am really interested in composing music for this. What style do you want? I would probably be best at doing orchestrated songs, but I can change the style a bit if you wanted something different.

Well, I was planning using the karaoke version of each song as backround mini/confused

Ohh.

Well if you want any originals...

And just saying, you may need rights to have copyrighted music playing.

Okay, here's the deal, I'm starting this again! (For the third time) I kept giving up because I have been having some major problems with composing music. Anyone who is skilled, I could really use your help! I'd just want some random loops that I could work off of.
Thanks! PM me if you can help in any way.

Re: Harry Potter: The Musical (Update Thread)

In my (little) experience of making songs for musicals I have found that writing lyrics first and then putting them to music works best.

Unless of course your doing parodies of songs where I'd Google the lyrics and then change them about.

BTW you could try contacting some of the people advertising their composing skills over on the audio subforum  mini/smile

I have tried parodies but I had gotten some negative feedback from some people about it. So I decided to go my own my own way. And I also never thought to try to write lyrics before the music, that seems like something I should try. Lastly I'm going to go see if other people in the audio forum will help me out. Thanks!

When you say, "We Are Young", do you mean "Love Is a Battlefield" by Pat Benetar?

What do you mean that you got bad feedback for writing parodies?  And it shouldn't deter you from doing so.  I recorded an entire album of song parodies about Transformers, and it was very rewarding.  And I covered genres from showtunes to oldies to pop to rock.  You should pursue the creative style that you wish and not worry about the reactions of a few.

Now, this may not work for you at all, but here's the secret to how I write songs.  I write lyrics.  I create music indepentently of the lyric writing.  I look at my body of work, and say, "hey!  Those lyrics and that music would work well together!"  Then I marry them into a song.  And that's my secret.  When I wrote the "Holding Our Own" theme song lyrics, they were perfect for a melody I wrote around 1992 or 1993.

Re: Harry Potter: The Musical (Update Thread)

It looks great! I'm a weird singer, sometimes I sing well and sometimes far from good but if you're ok with my singing (like in my Les Miserables brickfilm) then let me know if you need some help mini/wink

Re: Harry Potter: The Musical (Update Thread)

@HoldingOurOwn, Well, I meant that it was a bad idea for writing parodies for the musical. I'd rather just try something more original.

@LarryStudios, I wouldn't need good singers (Although if you are that would be great). What will also make it funny is that the singing isn't perfect. mini/wink

Thanks Guys!
