Topic: BiM Mobile App

So alot of members probably use BiM on their mobile, so I was thinking, why not an app? I've seen plenty of other forums do it, and it looks really neat. Now not that there's anything wrong with the site on a mobile as it it, but in my opinion it's just a bit clunky.

As for the layout and design maybe we can make a sort of contest where the community makes and votes on the best one. As for the money, we could host a kickstarter (or if possible with the current earnings of the site) use a bit of the generated ad revenue.

What do you guys think, good idea, bad idea? And is it even possible (with the coding and all)

Re: BiM Mobile App

I would say, while it is a great idea for those who can accomplish it, the design and development depth here at BiM isn't very deep nor consistently strong enough to keep up with the development of the site as a website in addition to a mobile app or even a more mobile friendly version of the site.

Re: BiM Mobile App

We have a hard enough time getting the website updated, so something tells me that a BIM app is a long way off.
Getting both Android and iOS apps would be a pain, but getting just one would only benefit a few of the members.
(Not that it matters to me seeing as I don't have a smart phone. mini/shifty )

Re: BiM Mobile App

You'd have a hard time raising money for something like this, considering that most people here are young, and everyone here would rather spend money on more LEGO bricks than pretty much anything else mini/tongue (yes, myself included). The only way it'd work out is if someone already on here were to make it, from the goodness of their heart.

Re: BiM Mobile App

While it would be a nice addition, I tend to agree with everyone else. Unfortunately we just don't have enough members that it would benefit probably. I'm sure there are other things that would be a better use of time and resources. I visit BiM on my phone all the time and it works fine. Sure, I have to zoom in and out a lot, but it's not that big of a deal. I guess I look at being able to use the internet on my phone as something that is already a great tool and blessing. If sites just happen to have a mobile version, then great. But I still am glad to be able to check sites when I'm out of the house.

Re: BiM Mobile App

Apps are overrated when it comes to this.  It just needs a mobile version of the forum.

I agree with Lechnology, BiM doesn't need an app, it just needs Mobile Version, because it's pretty easy for me to use BiM on my Galaxy S3, but not on my Android.

Re: BiM Mobile App

You got the s3?
Swaggy.

It's a bit of a pain on the iPhone, but I've gotten used to it.

Re: BiM Mobile App

I mostly use BiM on my iPad (including now) and it works fine.

I thought the Galaxy S3... was Android.

I guess a mobile site would be nice, but I've never really had any problem reading the forums on a phone. Of course, I don't really do it often enough to be critical.

Re: BiM Mobile App

Am I correct thinking this forum is run using PunBB? Because I have found a very interesting extension here: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … obile-v05/ that could possibly be used on this site. (I know nothing about PunBB)

Re: BiM Mobile App

So I get it that the site doesn't really need an app, but yes, like Lechnology says, a mobile version would be nice. I think that that extension would do the job nicely!
