Topic: Any decent webcams for Mac?

Hello everybody, I'm rather new here, and have be asking quite a few questions... I have another...
Does ANYBODY know of a decent webcam for Mac, with manual focus, white-balance etc that can shoot HD? I have been desperately searching and searching, but I haven't found much. I've looked at Logitech, with their dumbed-down, biased, limited, misleading, rage inducing software (for Mac). What really annoys me is that they are practically the flagship webcam brand, with 1080p enable cameras, Carl Zuiess lenses, etc, yet they lack all those really important features! mini/troll

Re: Any decent webcams for Mac?

I'd love an answer to this question too.  It's been extremely frustrating trying to find a camera to do manual focus with Mac.  I have a Panasonic PV-GS320 which does manual focus, EXCEPT when you plug in the USB cable.  Then it thinks it is a webcam and goes straight to autofocus.

EDIT: Actually, I just figured out the problem.  You have to use a firewire cable, instead of USB.  When in USB mode it is a webcam.  With Firewire, I can do manual focus.  That is all.

Problem with the pana is:
- you have to touch the camera to change the focus, and it's quite a wobbly button,
- resolution is limited to 640 x 480,
- mine doesn't handle the "red" all that great.

Re: Any decent webcams for Mac?

What a coincidence futuredave! I have a Panasonic SDR-H280, which looks just like the PV-GS320. My camera was pretty good when it came out (2008), but today, it is very limiting. So I've been wanting to find a maneuverable, HD webcam, to no avail. I'm thinking about investing in a Sony HDRXR260V Handycam, but does this require firewire too?
