Re: Advertisements on the website.

I do agree that ads on the website are needed, yet I think the placement could use some help. I would think that either the left or right side of the page would be more appropriate than having a large top banner with unfittingly large font.

Re: Advertisements on the website.

I think that anyone who puts their own money into running the site, and Smeagol's comment suggests that there are such people, have the right to decide whether or not there are ads on the site.

Yes and we have the right to post our opinions on the ads. Also I can guarantee you if it hurts the amount of visiters (Wich it wont) they would take them off.

Re: Advertisements on the website.

I'm pretty sure the ads are local, therefor, we're all seeing different ads.

Re: Advertisements on the website.

For some reason I keep seeing ads about Degree Deodorant for women. mini/XD

So much for relevant ads... mini/lol

Re: Advertisements on the website.

I keep getting ones about casting calls.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Advertisements on the website.

As for relevance, it has to do with a mixture of your physical location, your search history, and the nature of this website in general.

Re: Advertisements on the website.

To tell you the truth, I have gotten used to the ads, and I don't really even see them anymore.

If the ads are history based, I think Pritchard Studios got some explaining to do. mini/tongue

Anyway, yeah, I've gotten pretty used to the ads, too, like RedBrick1. They don't bother me much though they are a big to large for my taste (don't you dare say "that's what she said"). I think they should be smaller.

Re: Advertisements on the website.

Yeah -- it used to be the case that everyone would see the same ads with adsense. Now, however, it depends on your own history with Google and with browsing other sites. So I believe no matter what people will get some irrelevant ads.

I browsed a bunch of film festival stuff on Google today, and now most of my ads are about film festivals, other than the deodorant links.

Really? mini/shifty

To tell the truth, I clicked on it once, not knowing it was for women. (I thought the ads might be like YouTube ones and BiM might get a half-of-a-penny or so from my clicking the ad.) So being the good member I am, I tried to help out the site. But ever since then the Degree ads have been up nearly everytime. mini/XD

(Sorry I'm a bit late, I have just finished reading the thread)

I've got a banner at the top with three AdChoice ads in them, while logged in. Is this new?

I don't see any ads while logged in, does this mean that they were taken down since this was posted, and not mentioned here (or me not seeing the mention). Is it possible that some people see it while others don't, or did I miss them being taken down after the 'experiment'?

Re: Advertisements on the website.

I am getting an advertisement for "Find Single Gay Black Men"
Please, I think that you should restrict the advertisements to be more appropriate, if that is possible.

Otherwise I think it works pretty well because the other two ads were for camera stuff.

Topit, adwords only shows you what you're interested in. mini/blankexpression

Re: Advertisements on the website.

I agree that it would be good if the ads were more appropriate. Please understand that I haven't seen any dating ads myself, so far, so it's hard for me to gauge what's being provided. I'll look into it though and see if I can get that sort of stuff filtered out.

edit: Well, that was easy. Changed some settings, we shouldn't get inappropriate ads anymore, though I'm not sure if that could take a few hours to go into effect.

Re: Advertisements on the website.

Until then, I'll just have to deal with Motion Control Encoders.  Get Your Motion Control Encoders & Accessories from Avago.  So inappropriate!

Re: Advertisements on the website.

I've found that some of the ads are based on what you are viewing at the present moment. I was looking at ScreamingTantrum's "Pest Control" thread, and there was an ad for pest control. mini/bigsmile

Re: Advertisements on the website.

I notice that no matter what there is an iKitMovie add on the bottom of every page.... Is this because you have a deal with them or just random?

I'd say it's the latter reason, because I get that a lot as well.
