Just a tip: Make sure your lighting is consistent.
1. Mask a quicker way: In GIMP or photoshop do the two layers, but instead of regular masking add an Alpha Channel, then take a free select tool and use it around the desired object to mask. 2. Press Delete on the keyboard. 3. use the color picker tool to pick the color of the shadow, and then use the paintbrush to color in the missing parts of the shadow.
