If you have some money, I would check out the stock pack Action Essentials 2. Alot of great effects footage.

Action Essentials 2 effects footage has many fire effects, example. Or Action Movie Essentials.

Well first you should get some fire footage then greenscreen it to your stop motion. Im not sure where the fire would go or if theres  way to move the footage but thats the way i would do it. for greenscreening I would use kdenlive cause I use linux   mini/blankexpression
