Topic: Lego DOLLS?!?

Guys, I just saw this commercial on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEbJQmiZ … AAAAAAACAA) promoting a new kind of Lego for 2012. Lego Friends. It doesn't even look like Lego, it looks more like Barbie or something. I'm not saying I hate it, or saying Lego is only directed towards males. I'm just saying it looks...I dunno. Don't, however, think I'm being mean. I'm just telling everyone, you know. Getting the word out.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

Whats wrong with it?
I actually like the color scheme for many of those sets
plus I think this should go in bricks mini/wink

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

I was actually considering buying the design studio set - $9.99 and comes with a laptop, camera, lots of new colors, and a Friends doll thing.

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

Gender Stereotypes. That is all I can say.

Off-topic for a moment.

There have been a lot of threads being dumped in the General Film Discussion forum recently which fit well in other existing forums. This has been moved to the Bricks sub-forum, but in the future I would like everyone to remember that the General Film Discussion forum is for topics pertaining to film-making in general. There seems to be a misconception that it is the new community forum, or a forum for posting miscellaneous topics, but that isn't the reason it exists.

Back on-topic...

It's nice to see that we won't be in short supply of pink and cyan bricks any time soon.

If it's related to LEGO or brickfilming, it probably doesn't belong there

well maby if we all discuss all the awesome pink animations we'll make with the new pieces it will have something to do with Brickfilming mini/delirium

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

I look forward to the unique parts and colors offered here, plus more female hairpieces is always a good thing. I don't care for the FriendFigs so much, but they're no deal-breaker for me.

As for the issue of gender stereotypes that's been raised here (and discussed at length elsewhere), I'm of a mixed mind.

Reading this article, it's clear that LEGO has put a lot of thought and research behind this push. I think what naysayers miss is that all the current LEGO sets can still be played with/given to/enjoyed by girls - my sister loves her Castle sets, for instance. The fact that this line has more compatibility with current System sets than ever before means that, in my opinion, girls' interests are less segregated than they've been in the past.

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

I don't have an extreme problem with it.

It kind of annoys me that there have been news stories about this new theme as though it's a bad thing. But it's just a colour. And pink is a nice colour, at least I think so. I use lots of pink flowers in films.

Also, this isn't new at all. Barbie has made stuff of this sort for ages, and LEGO itself has had pink sets for a LONG time now. I'm pretty sure I saw some a decade ago. It's nothing new.

I'm actually somewhat interested in getting one of these... They include a remarkable amount of rare pieces, and a little pink in moderation can be quite nice without looking girly.
I just wouldn't want to be caught buying one. xD

And if you don't like pink houses with dolls, get Batman sets. mini/smile

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

The color scheme is nice,it would be useful to my brickfilms,i don't understand why so many people hate it.
The dolls are useless, but the sets are.
I think i'm gonna buy the sets(online, and with no minifigures, because the friends dolls are useless to me).

The Ghost of Mrs. Day studios: Home of mediocre brickfilms.

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

I think there could be some cool new pieces, actually. I have nothing against this.

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

It looks great to me!  If I get these for my daughter, maybe she will stop stealing all her brothers' girl minifigures!

Being an elementary teacher AND the mother of four boys and a girl has taught me that, in spite of what many in the news will tell you... boys and girls are different, lol!  When I was a young mom, I bought my two oldest boys a play kitchen and a doll.  They took apart the kitchen and “microwaved" the doll.  I didn't buy my daughter a doll initially.  She asked for one!  I saw the same thing in the classroom.  I don’t think it’s that girls’ tastes are less segregated; it’s just that Lego is coming up with more sets that appeal to girls too.  The “castle” sets, for example, contain lots of nice details and lend themselves very well to “romantic” stories. mini/bigsmile

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

I think the sets themselves are pretty cool. Rare colors, different pieces, cool builds. I was initially hesitant as I didn't think the figs were compatible with existing figs but I just recently found out they are. I don't like that the legs are one piece but that is a minor quibble in a fine series. I plan to pick some up on sale so my daughter and I can have one of each. mini/smile

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

I guess this is an updated version of Belville, aiming at slightly older girls (or younger girls who like to pretend they're older). It's bringing it up-to-date and I think it's a great idea. Plus, with all those rare pieces and colours, I'll definitely be getting at least one.

Re: Lego DOLLS?!?

I'll be honest, when my friend told me he saw an advert for LEGO Friends, I was EXTREMELY disappointed that it had nothing to do with the show, and I couldn't have my very own LEGO Joey.
